    From Lander... according to the google master...

    Going thru the park is the shortest mileage wise and the same time wise as going thru boise. The route joins i90 half way between bozeman and butte.

    Going north thru thermopolis and cody to i90 is the same mileage wise as going thru boise and just a few minutes longer time wise. Surprisingly, all three routes are within 20 minutes of each other.

    Added the following:

    5 gal minimum extra gas is require, we won't see a gas station for 4 days sometimes.

    You can join at ANY TIME! I run APRS and you can track me online to intercept us easily.

    Hmm. Everywhere I know allows dogs except maybe kerwin as its near wilderness line and horse refuge. I'll check though. Think the Pryor mountains allow them though.

    Yeah pets are good. Kerwin is still USFS. And we will be camping on BLM in the Pryors. So the horse refuge isn't a problem.

    Yeah you'll need that. Main way of communicating on trail.

    The Uinden 520xlpro is by far the best lil radio you can get. Fits in the ash tray. Hood is a good place of the antenna. If you don't want to tune it till you get here we can help with that.

    CB setup isn't too bad. There are a couple of things that trip up new users though.

    The big one is properly grounding your antenna. There are two basic types, grounding them correctly depends on the type. And as Monte mentioned a hood mount is best of you don't want to mount on your roof. These two locations are 'best' because of range, both Tx and Rx as the hood (or the roof) offer a flat metal surface as a ground plane.

    The other issue is powering the unit. Best to go directly to your battery for power. Tapping into a source of power in the cab can create problems. I would 2nd the recommendation of the Uniden 520 (not the 510 model) radio.

    This photograph was taken in August, 2014. It is from the Morrison Jeep trail, from the meadow above the switchbacks.

    I am thinking that may be the Sunshine Basin in the distance, center of the photograph.
