I want to Plasti-dip my factory wheels. The wheels are in great condition and I'd like to keep them that way and I would also like a different look.

Did you spray your wheels with the tires still on the rim?

I will be mounting new tires in a month or so and I was wondering if the plasti-dip will get rubbed off when the tires get changed by the tire machine.

If I were to spray my wheels a week or two before the new tires are put on, I wouldn't have to bother with masking off the rubber and I could just spray the rims correct?

How does this work with wheels that get new rubber?

I did it with tires still mounted to the rims. What I did do was remove the wheels from the truck, and took index cards and slipped them around the rim in between the rim/tire. Wheels have been plastidipped for a year and a half now. I haven't even touched it up. There are a few nicks around the lugnuts but other than that they are just fine. I can't stand when people just plastidip the wheel, over the lugnuts, etc.

If you happen to be doing black dip than you don't need to mask at all, otherwise the card trick works well like the above poster mentioned. Tire wet on the tires also works.

If you want your wheels to stay nice then clean them properly. Plastidip will not protect your wheels from your neglect.

Wait to dip until you get the new tires, makes life easier. I'd recomend having them refinnished though. Plasti dip is... very cheap looking IMO.

Plasti dip is cheap looking if you don't do it correctly.
