    TRD Exhaust
    Hello everyone,
I'm a new member to tacoma world as well as a new Tacoma owner. I just picked up my 2010 access cab dark grey truck a week ago and I love it. Since then I have been glued to this website searching for upgrades I want to do to my truck.
Also, not too sure if there are any differences in the trucks, but figured I better mention it, I'm from British Columbia, Canada.
So far, here are my plans:
3" lift (I believe the shop here uses Truxxx)
33" toyo mudders on 18" XD series Spy rims
    Flowmaster dual exhaust
    TRD cold air intake
I am up in the air about the Doug Thorley headers and MAF calibrator.
I only have 500 Km's on the truck so far so I want to put a few thousand on it before I start making these modifications.
    My questions are:
What is the difference between the normal DT headers and the long ones? (sound, performance, etc.)
    Is it even worth it?
If I decide against the MAF calibrater (which I most likely will be against it at first) what can I expect from the other addons?

    Thanks in advance!

    Welcome!

The long tube headers will bolt right up and will get rid of the first set of CATs. Also will require an O2 sim to me wired up.

The shorties will need to be welded in place, but will allow you to keep the first set of CAT (if you wish)

"Is it worth it?" I got the long tube headers because I wanted to get rid of the first set of CATs.

The APR X-1 is much better then the MAF cal, but cost twice as much.

The dtlt's will make more power, they are easier to install being they bolt right on. they do require a o2 sim. but it's no biggie. you can order one from urd with your headers. the flowmaster exhaust will actually make you lose some power. i recomend the dynomax super turbo muffler. if your looking for a complete exhaust then check out urd's ss exhaust with the dynomax super turbo muffler. it is designed to go with the long tube headers. the maf cal is gonna tune your engine for the increased air flow. it is totally safe and i have one on my truck and been running it for years. with the headers, exhaust, intake, and maf cal you should see some pretty good hp gains. hope that helps and good luck!

    Thanks for the replies!
Stupid question, but is it legal to just remove the first set of CATs?
Also, I'm confused as to why the flowmaster will cause a drop in HP. Are there any dynos available to show that? The reason I wanted the flowmaster was because it is the dual exhaust. Would the URD exhaust still sound awesome if I didnt get the the long tube headers?

^^the headers are not street legal because you have to remove part of your emissions system. The urd exhaust comes with two muffler choices. One for headers and one for stock

I have heard people say that the flomaster is kinda restrictive, because it's a chambered style muffler where as a magnaflow is straight threw type.

Urd exhaust has your choice of a magnaflow or dynomax muffler. Both are great!

    TRD Exhaust
Hey, thanks again for the replies.
So after speaking with a lot of people and doing a lot of reading, I'm going to hold off the headers for now and focus on the exhaust and intake.
I spoke with a local custom exhaust specialist guy and he claims I shouldn't lose any HP going with the flowmaster. I like the URD and TRD exhausts, but I am deadset on getting a dual system. (I like the looks of the dual rear side exits) However we decided to look into possibly doing a true dual system instead of the single in/dual out flowmaster. He is going to price something out for me and then pick a few different mufflers and see what I like. He says that the true dual system should work for me a lot better for HP gains, sound and performance expecially with a CAI. What do you guys think?

I have the TRD CAI. Been thinking about buying the Volant CAI with scoop or at least buy their scoop and add it to my TRD CAI.

Your gonna lose power with the flowmaster. And even more so with a true dual setup. Exhaust really is not gonna help you build power. You really need the headers!!! I tried to help.

Thanks TacoSupreem, just frustrating how I want to add an exhaust system but will lose power. Is there any way I can gain power from just the exhaust? Also, I am talking about complete exhaust CAT back systems, not just the muffler if that helps.

From what I understand the headers are where you can gain some power. Not really gonna see any gains from a catback system. I've heard alot of people like chris4x4 say that the flowmasters make you lose power. They do sound good though! As far as the intake I would recommend jus keeping your stock intake and get an afe pro dry s drop in filter.

Appreciate the advice, is there any reason why you recommend against the CAI and going with the afe pro dry filter?

I have the afe pro dry and so do alot of guys on here they seem to flow alot of air and are washable and reusable. plus they dont need to be oiled like the k&n's do. also your factory intake is a cold air intake! that trd cai is gonna cost you some coin and your really not gonna see much improvement if any over just installing a good drop in filter like the pro dry s. the headers are the best bang for your buck out of the mods you have listed. $500 bucks approx. and assuming your a v6? you could see around 15 hp and 20ftlbs of torque.

    Oh Yeah!!!
Fire your exhaust guy:eek: He apperently does not know what he is talking about. True duals on the 1GR, with no Boost, or even with is not recommended.

    Listen to this advice:cool:

Stay away from Volant unless you plan on spending another $240 - $1300 on the AFR sim or APR-X1...

Yup, stay stock with a good drop in filter for your intake, pull out the secondary filter for shits and giggles too. Forget catback. Have a smart exhaust guy weld in a magnaflow, Dynomax, or Aero Turbine.

    Now you are spending:

    $60 for intake vs $300+
$100-$150 for Exh. vs $400+ for catback or some fabbed duals that suck

Then you can put the rest to the DTLT Headers.

You will love the improvement and your wallet will love you:D
