There have been a number of comments signaling a desire to install a homelink mirror in our TRD'S like the Pros and Limiteds have standard. Bob's Automotive Mirrors has a kit for about $150 that solves it easily. It comes with the same mirror as in the Pro and Limiteds and a pigtail connector he's constructed. It takes about 10 minutes to install. I guess like the absence of u-joints with zirc fittings on 16s and 17s, Toyota thinks "you just don't want them". www.bobsmirrors.com

Before non TRD OR folk get too excited, the wiring is not in all trim levels. Source, I just installed one on my SR.

How much is the oem home link mirror frI'm toyota? Will it work without a wiring problem on the Off Road? Carrying a garage door remote is lame.

There are less expensive ways to have an onboard garage door opener. A quick search will get you the details.

Seems like a lot of work and money to avoid having a garage door opener clipped to your visor like normal people do.

$20 and less than an hours work. And in the 21 century normal people don't hang remotes from their visors!

I was talking about the OP with the mirror swap that costs $150.

And I wouldn't personally use up an already limited amount of push button area that we have for a garage door opener.

You can also buy a Homelink module that was buried in the visor of late 90's GM products and fit it to your headliner.

It's a bit more work, but it worked beautifully in my last truck.

I bought a homelink mirror from Bob. Took 10 minutes to install in my sport. I use it everyday so I consider it a useful addition. Plus, it looks cool. :D

I don't even need the homelink in mine, only wanted the compass and auto-dim .. Amazon sent me a better mirror than I ordered.

Now I'm trying to figure out a way to utilize it. My garage is a converted barn, so I'll never put an automatic door on it. The one side could work with an opener, but is too small for my truck. The other side is a giant sliding door that I'll never take down.

One advantage is that some people will break into vehicles. Steal your garage remote and your insurance info. And use the remote to open your garage door and if it's attached to your house they have easy access to your house.

If you're in an area that this is a concern, then you'd probably hide the clicker if you had a clicker. The person breaking in could just as easily click the button on the mirror if it's attached to the house and they could still have the same access.

Jokes on them... if they're already in my truck, they've already gotten my most expensive asset... The one upside of living somewhere stoooopidly expensive you generally don't have a bunch of flashy toys laying around the house.

If you go to a sporting event or a concert. People will often steal your remote, they know that you won't be back for awhile.

Again, if you live somewhere where this is an actual concern, they would hide the remote. Theft is a crime of opportunity and not usually premeditated to a specific person. It would be no different for a thief to see through the windows "oh this person doesn't have anything in the open...next" than a person with a homelink mirror.

I agree with what you are saying. Out of sight out of mind. But it could also be peace of mind for people who tend to forget or don't like hiding the remote everytime they park their vehicle.
