I will be visiting with the service manager tomorrow as well as talking with Toyota directly.

It is a shame the way Toyota is treating every one on this sight! This is my third Taco, may be my last. On a funny side note. I ran into a friend I had not seen in over a year, mentioned our plight, he mentioned that his boss bought a 40s Chevy pickup with a new small block and other upgrades. He loves it, no problems, been driving it for a year. Maybe he's onto something, I could have about rebuilt every thing on a 40-50 truck by now, and it wouldn't leek!

Just checked it this week but not part of any recall. I haven't read this thread completely yet but sounds like i need to get this fixed under warranty at the dealership ASAP?
Anything specific that I need to tell them?

So just to be sure no one has seen sealant used for this correct?!? Does anyone have specific info on if sealant is even suppose to be used at all? Thanks for the help. I have opened a case with Toyota on this also.

In this thread the actual procedure for the seal replacement is posted. This is what Toyota corp has instructed the techs to accomplish and NO sealant is used or ever used.

Nothing specific I can think of, just that your rear differential is leaking. Based on all the pictures posted, your case looks like an average or slightly above average leak.

Yes, for reference it was post 2065 of this thread. A Toyota mechanic was kind enough to post the official fix PDF files the day it was released, June 15.

That is fuked up! I wouldn't even call them back, call corp
and send them the pics as well.

I wonder how much of that shit squeezed right back INSIDE as well. That
is just not good at all.

Okay so I talked to Corp and they said that they talked to the dealership and everything was done correctly. They said that the dealership techs get trained by Toyota and wouldn't do anything different than what they were trained to do. I told them people make mistakes all the time and that the techs are not robots. They then said that because I am not part of the recall the same fix isn't applied to my vehicle. They are backing up the dealership with the fix as being add sealant and call it a day. I called another dealership in the area and they said they would do the same thing and that there is no real gasket to replace it is just sealant that is used as the gasket. I said the recall clearly shows a part number and that it is a real gasket and not just sealant. Right now I am waiting for a call from the service manager from the place I took it to and I am sure that is going to go no where.

I'm not a mechanic, so I have no clue if your fix looks right or not, but it sounds like if you aren't part of the recall, you don't get the same fix (the new gasket) as those who's trucks are on the recall, which we already knew. (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

I'd be raising all Holy Hades over that "puddle"... that's BS. I'd be worried about even driving that truck w/ that amount of leakage.

I completely understand that but my concern was that they cracked the diff and I am trying to confirm whether the carrier gasket should always be replaced when that happens along with the 10 lbs of sealant. I just got a call from the service manager and they said all they do is scrap the surfaces clean and then add sealant to them. I then said well I had to wait for my service appointment due to the gasket being on back order. He then put me on hold and came back and said oh yeah they did replace the cork carrier gasket and that the 2nd gens didn't have those so that was what he was thinking of. I then said well I am looking at the recall instructions for disassembly and assembly of the diff and there is no mention of sealant. He said well we add that on our own. Now I hope this does stop any leak but I also want it done right so here I am trying to get the correct procedure. Remember I was told by Corp that the techs only do what Toyota has trained them to do.... I love my truck and I am not looking to bash anyone but I am looking to make sure the service was done right.

The first, and last, Infinity built in the US was the QX56 (big SUV based on the Armada). What you stated is the exact reason is now built back across the pond. Quality out of the Canton plant sucked and not up to the standards of what Nissan expected out of it's flagship fleet.

Yeah, welcome to my life.... At least your dealership attempted to fix the problem. They just looked at my weeping rear diff, sent some pics to whoever approves warranty work at Toyota (according to them), and then said the work wasn't approved and just cleaned it off, the second time mind you, and sent me on my way saying it was apparently"normal". Called Toyota Corp. and they backed up the dealership saying, even if there was a fix/recall for my model, which there isn't, but even if there was, according to someone at Toyota - whoever approves warranty work - my rear diff wouldn't qualify for it.... So yeah, those weeping stains coming out, that look just like the recall pics... Yeah that's apparently normal.

Just going to wait until I see the stains again, which will be a 3rd time, then go to another dealer.

It's not cork, they haven't used cork gaskets for over 20 years.

The 2nd gens do indeed have a gasket (also not cork, and the same part number as used on the 3rd gen):

Why do they always lie instead of just telling the customer outright that they are a bunch of incompetent bozos?

Buy your own and bring it to them--Google the p/n 42181-0K030, there are several vendors offering them for sale.

from the June 15, 2017 safety recall document:
