I wanted a TRD pro, and I bought a TRD off road. I have zero regrets.

i get 27 average at end of week. Not concerned a lot on that. I average 20.2 on the 16 I had for short time which is fine.

The range is what really appeals to me. Some of the places I hunt are waaaaay the hell out there and there ain't no fuel stations. I was lucky my buddy had extra fuel in his truck- cause i needed it with the Taco.

And I have dogs in the bed so carrying fuel in a bed is a no-no with live puppies. My Taco had a realistic range of about 300 miles. That diesel could take you 525 miles no problemo.

    I like that.

If you're driving 650 miles a week you might be better off staying w/ a diesel. If a priority is going fast on rough roads either a ZR2 or a Pro would probably be better. FWIW I'm very happy w/ my 17' DCSB OR w/ JBL, very quiet, basically no rattles, except the very slight ticking at the front side window thing which was easily fixed. I wanted a sunroof so neither of the twins nor a Pro would work for me, and I added a leather interior on my own. I'm thinking about upgraded shocks so if that's a priority stick with a ZR2 or a Pro, though a Tacoma 3rd gen OR is still a very capable off road truck, just have to change the tires.

The Pro doesn't even look like the same truck next to a Sport, Off-road etc.
The blacked-out head/tailights, grill, wheels etc. makes all the difference.
The other trims just have too much chrome.

Not to start a Zr2 vs Tacoma tangent but technically the TRD off road has a better approach angle and more ground clearance. I still think the Tacoma looks better and with better re sale and QRD than any other mid sized truck out there, Tacoma is a clear choice. The Zr2 has better tires, the diesel is a nice option but not worth the price tag. At the end of the day, it is still a chevy...

    Also have zero rattles

So..... "blacked out" makes for a $40k truck?

    Sport is color matched.

Black wheels, smoked head/taillights, black grille can all be had for thousands cheaper than what is costs for a trd pro.

thanks for posting on rattles also!! Appreciate that. I do agree on holding value better for sure and will have better angles. I don't go off road to extremes just to some ugly back roads sometimes to creeks fishing especially in snow and after rains . Do want best ride best resale. Because looks matter with the Toyota id want to make sure if I go TRD off road id want a good lift that would ride as good as stock if that is possible. Maybe put some 33s and either goodyear duratracs or bfg ko 2s look good and shouldn't be to noising on hyw

you mention 33's and I immediately think Manual Transmission for the Taco. Driving as much as you do you'll soon get tired of the gear hunting with an auto and bigger heavier tires. KO's in 265/75/16 look much larger than the stock tires (even 265/70/16 KO2's)

Oh really. I don't want manual for I drove truck for years and I won't go manual. Done with those for me. Maybe I will need to rethink how to get the look I want
Maybe go trd pro and just go one size bigger and go ko2 or duratrax. Saw a couple pics of cement trd pros with that and they looked pretty good

I don't think it's a tangent to discuss a ZR2 and Tacoma- I think the OP is considering it, so worth a mention.

The one thing I can say that is a big positive for Chevy- they are responding to the market. 2 available powerplants (which a lot of Tacoma lovers have been clamoring for), a completely different animal than a standard Colorado- the only thing they share is the interior (which is admittedly crappy). The suspension on the ZR2 isn't some upgraded coilovers and shocks- it has different UCA's, completely radical suspension, wider than the Colorado, locking front and rear diff's... It's a totally different beast.

And it doesn't suffer from the hunting issues as the Taco.. And the diesel gives you plenty of low end punch, travel range and mpg. Expensive? Yes. But honestly this market segment spends a crap ton of $$ on all sorts of 'upgrades' to their rigs.

If you were to pile up all the goodies that makes a TRD Pro a Pro, and all the things that make a Zr2 a Zr2 and place them side by side- I think it's pretty clear that GM engineers did a FAR better job at designing this rig.

But you are right- it is still a Chevy. But I certainly give them kudo's for bringing this to market.
