doesnt surprise me.... some uniballs dont have much if any more flex than the standard ball join (around 60*). It looks like they re-angled the cup some to help with droop, but not as much as say TC, and it looks like a smaller 1in uniball which will have less flex too.

Are you running any spacers on the top of struts?

yea these are a 1" uniball.

No spacers, just 5100's with 885 springs.

    Thanks for the replies guys!

To be fair, thats how the stock suspension bottoms out, but it's a ball joint, not a heim.

Your shocks should NOT be used as a travel limiter in any way.

Stock setup the shock limits droop. 5100's are about 1.5in longer that stock shocks.

You can use the shock as a droop limiter if you are not constantly drooping out fast (a slow flex that lifts the tire off the ground no problem, high speed whoops, strap that bitch) But using the upper ball joint as a limiter is a big NO NO, especially a uniball, you will break the bolt between the ball and spindle and you will fold a tire up into the truck... no bueno.

IF thats the original idea, it doesn't work. After mashing in the Desert, my ball joins were starting to work their way out of the cup, indicative of the spindle angle being greater than the angle of the ball joint( I am far from stock now)

I am not advocating using the uniball as a limit strap, BTW.

ah yes.... i got my droop at the tire measurement mixed with the shock length. looking around 1.5in more droop than stock, which translates to right around 5/8ths - 3/4in at the shock.

limit straps can stretch as much as 1"/foot of length.

Is anyone running the JBA's ? They are supposed to have more articulation at the ball joint?? I've seen commentary on the more popular uca's but very little on JBA's.

I like those JBA balljoints. It seems to me there is not much you can do with the stock spindle as far as getting more droop with a uni-ball, hence the fabricated spindles like Camburg run a horizontal uni-ball.

JBA ball joints have 90* of movement. Stock ball joint is ~60* 1in uniballs are around the same 60-65* depending on missalignment spacers, 1.25in uniballs are around 70-75*, and SPC ball joints are right around 80-83*

Im not sure what the uca looks like at full compression but id bet there would be room to twist the ball cup upwards further to allow more droop without binding the opposite way at compression. Like stated it seems like the TC uppers have the ball cup angled upwards more so than the OP's

Definitely less stress on the uniball bolt binding during droop than hard compressive hits. I would think they use this as a design factor when aligning the uni-ball through the range of travel.
