The folks over at Power Plug USA seem to be hard at work tuning Toyotas. The 3rd Gen Tacoma is "Coming Soon" with 2nd Gen on pre-order (as well as FJ, 4R and Tundra).

Not to undermine all the hard work OVTune is doing but competition is good. In this case, it's worth it to me to hold out for 1 simple reason - you select different tune maps from your phone. (At least that's what their website says) I'm all Mac so the need for Windows OS for ovtune is a deal breaker.

    3rd Gen "Coming Soon" page.
    https://powerplugusa.com/pages/coming-soon-power-plug-for-2016-gen-3-toyota-tacoma

ps - I have zero affiliation here. I'm just a 3rd gen owner wanting to wake up my truck.

EDIT: After further reading and comprehension, this is NOT an ECU flashing device as I had thought. It plugs into engine sensors, monitors and sends modified/tuned signals back to ECU.

"The Power Plug was designed to increase the overall performance of the Toyota V6 Engine. Advanced tuning maps improve throttle response and power delivery throughout the RPM range. Gains of up to 15-20HP & 15-20TQ can be achieved on 91 octane fuel with the Plug & Play module. Wake up your engine and improve your driving experience with added power and removal of “Dead Spots”."

    Then what is it?

If it stays connected then it's not a tune, it's a tom foolery device to trick ecu into changing certain parameters, might as well buy a resistor pack on eBay and label that a tune too

I kind of get what you're saying but a ebay resistor pack can't do this:

"The Power Plug App let's you choose how you want your vehicle to run. Change maps on the fly and receive free tune updates as they get released. Select from different types of fuel, intake systems and driving styles such as Fuel Economy, Towing and more."

Hes right though, if it's plug and play its not a tune, its like a bypass device.

Yup, makes sense. I updated my op to reflect so not to spread misinfo.

It's referred to as a "chip". At least that's what they are called in the diesel truck world.

A piggyback is a good idea for those that want some extra performance without going to a tune. I like that they're able to make that work, lots of ECU's can compensate for a piggyback.

semantics aside, this may be a good real option for many owners. Curious to hear from those bold testers!

    all tore up already
Im sure they have changed slightly but know most of these fool your vehicle into thinking its still in "warm up" mode. During warm up vehicles do not need to meet emissions and they run richer to heat the engine and cat quicker. Not sure id trust something like this 9n such a complicated engine running 4 cats. But hey it isnt my truck, get on that waitlist and let us know what it breaks
