Actually this is wrong. Platniums and Iridims last longer, but they don't conduct electricity as well as copper. Copper plugs are the best when they are new.... The problem with copper is they don't stay 'new' for very long. The high dollar plugs last longer than copper for sure. And on some cars, this is very nice, as it is very hard to change plugs on some engines.

I have a friend who was a service advisor at a local Toyota dealership and he said it varies by dealership but most SA's are paid on commission. The more work they talk you into the more money in their pocket. I was not aware of this until he told me, but makes some sense as to why some SA's are like high pressure salesmen

I have never done an injector service. Almost all gasoline these days has detergent included. When I pulled my 3.0 for head gasket work at 188,000, I sent the injectors out for cleaning. The pre-clean flow test showed one at 94% and the other 5 at 97%. I run the lowest octane available, but buy at reputable stations just because I think the biggest issue is water and sediment in the station's tanks.

I called to schedule my 30k maintenance today. They told me I need to change out my rear diff fluid, transfer case and front diff fluid. I told them they already replaced the entire rear differential once. ....awkward silence on other end...."oh ok yeah well we won't need to do the rear diff then".....

You can seriously just follow the owners manual, but I would just change oil, rotate tires, check brakes regularly, check your fluid levels and color of them and if you are doing serious off reading, change fluids a little more often , air filter and cabin filter but you may never need an alignment unless you really bang the crap out of the front end.. owned more than a dozen 4x4's and never got any of them aligned unless it was pulling or the tires were wearing badly..

Why would you change plugs this early on? Most plugs are good for 100k, I think of the 33 cars I have owned, I may have changed plugs on 2 cars..

CPS or MAF complications causing premature cabrón build up on the plugs.

I am mindful about sediment in a gas station's tank too. I never pull into any gas station if I see a tanker truck filling their tanks.

understand but how often does that happen? I know the CPS is a recall but I have replaced one MAF on one car in 40 yrs of driving, just saying..not arguing, just trying to let him know that you don't need to replace sparkplugs on a vehicle 99% of the time..

I never said they needed to be changed, i just asked that when changing plugs why would u stick with oem, opposed to a bosch/ngk iridium or platinum plug. It was just a question, and i do plugs in my vehicles every 80000 because i can and they always seem to run much nicer.

I like that 'fresh changed' feeling too. Starts better, idles smoother.... Course with regular plugs like I use this doesn't last all that long....

Theres nothing better than a full plug&wire replacement and a good carb tune on my old car. Runs like a dream for a bit.

I'd would have asked them if that's what Toyota recommends, did they do this at the 10k mark and 15k service under ToyotaCare .

What Toyota "Recommends" (per the manual) is different from what Toyota "requires"... so you can opt to follow the "recommendations" and pay a ton or you can follow the "requirements" which should keep your warranty in tact along with your wallet.

I have never done a fuel injector service. I sent the 25 year old injectors off for cleaning when I replaced the head gasket, and they were all at 97% or greater flow rate in the before cleaning test.. Virtually all fuel has detergents which are sufficient to keep injectors clean.

Like unclebert stated, most SA work on commission. If not on commission, they probably have some incentive program like a vacation to the SA with most up-sells.

I get alignments when the tires show it needs it or it does not track straight. I get balances every 5000 or 10000, but only because it is part of the balance and rotation plan.

    all tore up already
30k id do spill and fill on front and rear diffs, lof, engine and cabin filters and a bottle of techron or similar injector cleaner. I might do t case and mt fluid too but that depends how i feel that day. Screw rotation at this point, tires dont have that much life left in em. But thats just me, didnt look at what toyota or dealership recommends because they dont know anything
