Has anyone posted a picture of a 10 mm hole in their frame ? I am curious to see what it looks like . My frame is on the fence as far as being rusty enough for replacement .

 

Is it around the size of a quarter ?

 

no 10mm is about a 1/2 in.

10 mm is 0.3937", a bit over 3/8" (0.375"); 1/2" = 12.7 mm...

I think that on your frame where the layers of metal are separating qualify as a hole.It definitely is a safety issue weakening the structure of the frame rails.

 

I work at a Toyota dealer and have read the entire memo because I recently purchased a 2006 Tacoma TRD Sport D-cab (6spd) that we traded with 63k on it very cheap because the frame had maybe a year or two of life left in it. I just had the P/S cross member area patched and had to replace the brake lines from the cab back. When I first bought it, it would not qualify for a frame replacement and I knew that going into it. To me, I was able to get it cheap enough that I could've done a frame replacement and been OK in the truck (as far as $$$). I received a text Tuesday morning from one of the master techs telling me that I'll be getting a frame now. Both myself and the service adviser reviewed the memo there are NO mentions regarding date of purchase being an issue. In fact, there's a few lines in the FAQ section that refers to being the original owner or not and the answer states that the warranty on the frame covers all owners. I will be taking the truck into work with me tomorrow to have them do their inspection to get the ball rolling and get the parts ordered. I was told that I may be able to get reimbursement for the frame patchwork that I had done and also the brake lines since they get replaced with the frame. Needless to say, I hit the lottery with this deal. I actually started to direct deposit money from my paycheck into a savings account to save up to replace the frame on this eventually. Looks like I can use that money now to put towards a camper!

Thanks for posting that picture. Surprisingly my frame is actually the cleanest in that location, no rust at all. The majority of my rust is in the rear of the truck and on different components. Whats also interesting is that I have more rust on my brake calipers than you do, probably means ill have to replace them in the future.

Thanks for the quality pictures. My truck has spent most of its life in the Midwest. I'm in Kansas and I think a previous owner lived in Iowa and MO. We use a lot of salt here when it does snow or there is a chance of snow/ice but there probably aren't as many events as their are in the north east. Not sure how mine got so bad.
