Camper on a double cab Taco

Hey Guys,
So I'm very new to this world but have owned toyotas my whole life. Right now I have a 2015 Toyota double cab Tacoma off-road TRD. I recently purchased a camper that weights around 1000lbs. Clearly to heavy for my truck as is, please help with any recommendations. Not sure if air bags will do the job. Any advice is helpful.

So would you recommend selling this camper and getting shorter camper or can I make this work without jeopardizing the integrity of the truck?

 

That's a tough call, it looks a little sketchy, but that mostly depends on the weight distribution of the camper. If it's a little front heavy, it's probably fine. At a minimum you'll want air bags for the rear.

I would recommend selling your short bed & buying a longbed

 

Air bags and/or OME Dakars in the rear might be a good combo. Have you though about getting a RTT instead of the camper?

 

In a minute or else like others have said get a long bed.

Thanks Everyone! I'm going to wise up and sell this and find something a tad more appropriate for my short bed. Thanks for everyone's input. Truly a great platform to find reliable information.

 

Truck bed campers are not a great choice for tacomas unfortunately. Remember that your payload rating includes you, your passengers, gear, water, food etc. If you have 2 people in the car you are without a doubt exceeding the payload rating with a 1000 lb camper. I am sure the truck can handle a little overloading, but be aware you ARE overloading.

 

I'd consider a pop-up tent trailer or small camper trailer.

 

You could put the camper on a trailer and add an enclosed storage under the over hang, and down the sides.
