My 2014 had some surface rust, (mostly small spots) developing on the frame. I decided to hit it with a wire wheel to clean it up and paint it. When wire wheeling I noticed paint would flake off and expose larger rust spots underneath, just a heads up for anyone with slight surface rust. My crossmember had lots of spots as did my lower control arms, along with lots of little spots along the frame all the way back to about the leaf spring mounts. The spots that were under the paint were actually pretty deep rust.

Remember, "removing" rust is actually pretty difficult. You may think you have it all, but you probably don't - especially with just a wire wheel. I'd suggest following the wire wheel with one of the numerous products out there that chemically attack the rust and neutralize it. Then you have to prime and paint it properly to prevent it from coming back. If you don't do all of that, you may find that you've actually created a much bigger monster.

Agree with the above poster. Never understood why one would voluntarily remove the factory paint around areas they are attempting to treat, thus adding to the exposed and vulnerable areas, and especially on a newer truck. I have an 09' a half hour outside of Buffalo New York and had used the Krown every year and touched up spots every fall prior to the next Krown treatment with a rust inhibitor, in multiple coats over several days, doing nothing more than washing the frame down with a sponge and water. The treatment goes on white, turns black, and within a short time later, i get the next Krown application. No sanding of steel and paint, and the frame looks very clean.

What rust inhibitor are you using?

I use a product called Corroseal that i got from Home Depot online, and they ship to store for pick-up.; Under 20 bucks, and i have used it for 3-4 years now i think with good results. I do a few applications over the course of a week or so leading up to the next Krown application. Turns the rusted surface shiny black, and i do reapply it a day or a few later before the Krown app. There are no magic bullets, and expect to reapply annually, (or again in the spring if you chise to) and fall if you chose. I also get a can of the Krown product for under 10 bucks for touch ups in higher wear areas where that application might wear off after a while, and prior to the annual application. Easy brush on application so it really isn't much of a hassle at all.

I thought it was corroseal. I'm gonna pick some up this weekend.

    Much appreciated.

Doesn't warranty cover this on your 2014 truck?

I did the trunk and floor pan of a late 60's Camaro with POR-15 over 10 years ago. Just followed the steps. I've since sold the car to a family friend, but It still looks just as good as the day I did it.

:notsure: I doubt the dealer would've done anything. It wasn't bad, just enough for me to touch it up. Where I live over the last winter they just started using salt on the roads I think so it's only had one bad winter.
