Replacing windshield on rental.

Paintless dent repair. Dent wizard or some other company. Probably get it out of most of it for $100

 

I'm pretty sure if I tell the dealer to go that route they'll say they want to do it themselves and they'll probably have to repaint the whole door to have it to their standards. Freaking stealership..

 

My deductible is $750 but only $100 for glass. Defnitely call your insurance agent and find out, glass is usually treated differently.

 

Did you or they note it when you handed over the keys? If they signed off and took the keys back without mentioning it, that's on them.

Regardless, tell them you want to make it right but you will do it through your body shop. You are responsible for making them "whole". You aren't responsible for paying *them* to fix the ding. It's a $50 repair if it's a door ding. You would be stupid to pay them more than that.

 

So they gave you a courtesy loaner and not an actual rental?

 

They noted it around 30 days ago when I went back to resign the rental lease agreement on the car. They are just now telling me to fork out the cash to fix it. That's actually I good idea. I'll tell them tomorrow that I do wanna fix it, but not through them. I'll get it fixed from someone else who won't charge me $580.. thanks for the suggestion!

 

I'm pretty sure it was an actually loaner. Cause it was for 78-79 days. And I had to sign a rental lease agreement every 30 days.

 

If your insurance doesn't have a lower or free deductible take it to one of the glass places. They can put a windshield in it for less than $200. The one for our 4runner was $150. They never said you had to use Toyota glass just that you had to fix it.

 

Factory glass is very pricy. Call around for the cash price and you might be surprised how much cheaper. Watch out for cheap wavy glass. I've found safelite has smooth glass and is reasonably priced.

 

Were you ever given the chance for optional insurance?

I also was going to suggest telling them you will have the vehicle repaired from your shop of choice. Although I don't believe they will have to allow that perhaps they might not just say screw it and leave it be. Door dings happen to everyone and most of the time as long as it's under the size of a quarter they usually forgive them anyway. Atleast with lease turn in's. So a rental place should as well. I've seen so many damaged rentals, they don't repair the damage unless it's extremely bad

 

Good luck and stand firm. Your responsibility, ethically, morally and legally, is to make it right. That doesn't mean you have to do it how they want you to.

$500 would get quite a bit of fight out of me especially since it irks my principles and sense of justice.

 

They offered me the insurance and I told them I have full coverage. So they called my insurance and they told me I was fine and verified all my insurance. It's definitely smaller then a quarter. They told me they have to fix the damage because the rental car I got was not owned by the dealership, but was actually owned by Toyota...

Oh so it's a TRAC car. We had them at our dealer and I don't remember charging people for small dings. Perhaps you can find more info here

FWIW I am without words as to why the OP (or anyone) would accept responsibility for damage to a "loaner" vehicle provided by a dealer upon confiscation of my vehicle over a manufacturing defect.

110% no offense intended but I have to ask, are you people nuts?

They put you in that vehicle--they are responsible for whatever TF might happen to it--I'd be off to small claims court in the blink of an eye...

 

Also, If you held the car with a credit card they also often have built-in coverage.

I wouldn't go down that path unless you can't tell then to pound sand another way. Because they should pound sand.

 

Do you think I can argue that since I had the rental due to the recall I'm not responsible for the damage? Or should I just go the other route and say that I will deal with the damages, but not through their shop and go to another shop that will charge me less.

If the shoe was on the other foot, and they damaged YOUR car while they had possession of it, and we're trying to force you to have it fixed somewhere cheaper, or tried get out of paying for it all together, you would be singing quite a different tune.
You have their car, and you are responsible for damages that incur on it. The end

Nextime put down your credit card that covers your deductible when you're renting and you won't have to pay anything.

 

I have to disagree here. It is Toyotas responsibility to provide access to a rental/loaner, but corporate nor the dealer can not watch over you and how you treat said rental. You do not have to accept the rental car, it just has to be made available, therefore, by accepting the rental you are accepting the responsibility to return the vehicle in which condition you received it.
Most rental agencies allow small dings, but a busted windsheild, no.
I agree it is an inconvenience to have your truck held indefinite for an issue not caused by you, but as I said earlier, you are borrowing their vehicle.
