If the dealership took his truck for a test drive and took a rock. He would be pissed at the dealer.
He took the car and he also took responsibility for it when he grabbed the keys.

Damn, which sucks because we both didn't want to be responsible for this rental in the first place. It's like taking responsibility for child we didn't want.

100% agreed. I didn't want the loaner to begin with. If it was my truck that got the crack I'd take full responsibility of course, but driving something that is alot lower to the ground and more vulnerable to rocks hitting the windshield due to my vehicle being confiscated by force id arugue that I'm still making payments on a car that I'm not able to drive while driving a loaner that im now charged and forced to pay for any damadge that may occur to it.

Sounds like we are in agreement. I think the only difference is in how much push back before we over paid them.

If they damaged your truck sitting in the lot. They would want to make it right, through their people. If you gave them a bill for a much larger amount, and demanded they pay that amount instead of letting them make it right in-house they would scoff too.

But a calm reasonable discussion with those folks might fix the issue without any hard feelings. You're right, this is an excellent learning experience.het written acceptance of the damage while you still have possession of it so you can fix it your way if needed.

So here's the thing. This is a conflict of interest. They find damage and 'oo look we have guys that can fix the damage right here".

I'm not saying that anything nefarious is going on. It's reasonable to want to leverage your repair shop to fix the damages. From the other perspective, they have financial incentive to find damage. They have financial incentive to over-estimate the cost of the work. If they find damage, their repair shop makes money.

That is the only problem with this entire situation. They should allow the customer to make it right--and they shouldn't get any of that work to avoid the appearance of shadiness.

Tell them you'' deduct the repairs for the several months of car payments you have made on your useless Taco sitting on their lot. 3 months @ $500 per month, plus full coverage insurance @ say, $125 per month means that they owe you $1875 for your useless to you vehicle. Subtract the damage repair from that and present the bill to the monkey at the dealer.

a lot of states and insurance companies will replace windshields without hitting your deductible, in SC they replace and fix windshields without hitting the deductible and no cost to you...and your rental car should also be covered by the dealer insurance program for their rentals.

Just saying that if your report something to your insurance company they will raise your rate for 3 years.

It's nefarious that the the car belongs to the manufacturer, and they have the right to ensure that that it is repaired by a facility trained by the manufacturer, in a mannner, and with materials engineneed, tested, and approved by the manufacturer?
That's not a conflict of interest, that is their best interest.
Cmon Swiss cheese, you can do better than that.

Wife had one before the highlander she has now. Tells anyone that will listen how much more she loved the RAV.
She's pushing to get out of the highlander and get into an NX, not because it's a Lexus, but because it's a RAV4 with a turbo

Oh man, those are soooooooooooooooooooooooo nice!

The Highlanders are sweet, but she said it was 'too minivanish'

Really wanted her in a T4R - but they were just out of our price range at the moment

We had another kid and needed the 3rd row...told her the kids were her own fault, so it was the lesser of 2 evils between that and the sienna.

Had a 4R before RAV, but she has a long commute, and didn't want her spending anymore of my play money on gas than she needed to, so we went highlander for the added mpg.
I told her that if she gets a job closer, we can get her a 4Rpro and just punish one of the kids by making them sit between 2 car seats.

She's been on the job hunt ever since lol

shop, shop, and keep shopping for replacement. It's like the car business...some only get aggressive on pricing if they know there is another player in the mix.
