A slight increase in tire size CAN help mileage, in my case 245/75R16 and 4.10 gears suffer greatly as to maintain 65mph i'm turning 2900rpm if i go to a 285/75r16 i'll drop a couple hundred rpm which uses less gas, there is a crossover where things start going down

Very helpful, thanks. Definitely making sense now. I wasn't thinking about it at that level before, I guess.

Quite a bit. Funny how forgetting to put a space in Master Ace can make it sound so much worse

I "know" this, but I still manage to get a wave of depression when I fill up and calc my MPG's.
I was thinking about creating a speedometer compensation device with an Arduino. Do you think that it should be done at the Speedo, or would their be benefits to correcting it before the ECU?

I have about the same difference with stock gears, but I've only got 285/70/17's. Tires are gear ratios too.

If you are 8% off then you miss out on 8% more miles on the Odo.

Between my wife, 3 daughters and the Taco I might as well as buy stock. Or at least start my own shop.

Ha, my Runner is severely confused, was spec'd for 225/75r15 with 3.90 gears ( V6 5spd 4wd ) about 6months after i bought it the speedo needle wouldn't go past 40mph, even @ 70mph, not a good thing to let the wife loose in. found a new cluster, installed it ( mileage is now 13k off, lower than what it was showing ) Running 245/75r16 rubber, the speedo is off by 5mph @ 65, still not right, but at least trackable, then pinion bearing in rear was making noise, open it up to find 4.10 gearing in the rear, the front was still 3.90.....sigh ( front has since been swapped to 4.10 YAY, i can use 4wd again ! )

I figured out the cluster is programmed for a Runner with 4.30 gears now running 4.10 gearing with 245/75R16s it'll stay that way, don't care.

once it cools off there is that possibility, I've still got some trail prep and i need to find all my off road stuff ( strap(s), shackles, etc ) and off road rubber would be a good thing too. It's been a DD beater for the 7 years we've owned it, its time to go out and play

need to yank the running boards and build sliders and a rear bumper and a front skid/bash plate to protect the lower radiator as well.

Yup, looks like I'm sitting at a 7% difference. Good to know.
