I had the ECGS Bushing installed yesterday at a local shop and they also installed a new axle seal. Since I got the truck back, I have noticed a couple of small (dime sized) oil drops under my truck near the diff after sitting for several hours. Do you think this is excess oil from the install and removal of the diff? If the axle seal is bad, would I be leaking more than what I have noticed?? I am paranoid since I did not do the work and I want to double check to make sure something isn't wrong with it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It's very possible that it's just differential oil that dripping onto the housing during the process slowly leaking off. It's also possible the seal was installed all cock-eyed. That's easy to do.

You'll know in a couple of days. If you still have drips after tomorrow, it's probably the seal. You could also clean up the housing tonight and look for fresh fluid tomorrow.

Yeah I'd take it back if it keeps leaking.

^ this. Get under there and wipe it all clean. Use q tips and get inside all you can get to on the diff. If it's still dripping after you clean it, take it back and have them look st your seal.

Thank you! I got under there last night and removed all of the skid plates and gave them a good cleaning as well as the cv and diff housing. I will get under there tonight to see if I notice any more oil. I just thought I'd pick yalls brains to see if y'all thought I was the seal or just residual oil. I hope it's not the seal

Could be they just did a sloppy job of draining and refilling. However it's possible that they didn't seat or reinstall something correctly. Just have to wait and see. Hold them accountable. Take photos. Be kind but be firm. I'm sure they'll make it right.

I am in Longview, TX, so it would be a close to a 3 hour drive for you... I had it done at Longview Drive Shaft and 4x4. I checked it out last night and everything looks dry! I think they just did a bad job of cleaning up after they got done with it

Are you supposed to drain the front diff before the ecgs install?

You don't have to. Jacking up the driver's side to do the work is enough to keep most of the fluid inside the differential. Only a little will come out and it can be topped off.

It's a good idea to drain it since you're supposed to refill it with the correct gear oil that they recommend after install.

I cleaned mine well after install and it never leaked. If you cleaned it and it's good after the fact for a day or so you're fine. Still leaking at all after the cleanup, you need to fix it.

I put in about a quart of oil lost during the install, which is good to do anyways, and I was at 15k miles, so it wasn't a bad time to swap the oils anyways. Make sure you don't use any fluid with LSD additive, the LSDs on these are all electrical, not mechanical. I just used 80w-90 SuperTech from walmart. Why so cheap? I plan on changing every 15k miles anyways, no sense is wasting expensive stuff.

They topped it off during the install, but didn't change it. I am planning on changing it this weekend. What do y'all recommend? I am looking at the Mobil1 75W-90 gear oil... thoughts?

Firstly, you probably don't need to change if they topped it off. I drive through deep water and I watch my diff oils closely, even with the breather relocate mod.

If you choose to swap, it's pretty easy to do, get a fluid transfer pump and pop the fill cap on the diff, then put a pan down and get the drain cap and empty.

75w-90 I believe is synthetic, while 80w-90 is conventional.

Either works, it's mainly a budget thing. I've always been a fan of Mobil1 products.

I've been using Redline 75W-85 like the manual calls out. I think I'm going to stick to the toyota fluid call out as opposed to the ECGS. YMMV.

Thanks for the answer, didn't want to pull out my CV and empty 1.6 quarts of oil onto the ground without knowing in advance.

I used Mobile 1 on my 11 I had in the rear. Never had any trouble with it. I believe some folks up here have used it as well. When I swap the fluids on this one I'll probably use Amsoil.

If you see it again, it could be the axle seal. Those things are a pain to swap, so if they nicked it at all when they put the new one in it may not be sealing perfectly.
