What is the fascination with "black"?

I'm new to the forum and though I've noticed it "in real life" the amount of people that prefer black to stock and/or chrome on this board amazes me.

I know things go in cycles and black is the new "in" thing, but I have ordered an MGM 2010 Access cab, and am likely sticking with silver to accent it (in step bars & toolbox etc.) and will likely keep my wheels stock.

What attracts you (if you prefer black) to the black look?

What do you all think will be the next "big thing"? Painting wheels etc. to match the truck? Will chrome make a comeback, or is titanium going to be affordable enough to make an impact?

I know this is a lot of random gibberish, but I am just trying to get a pulse on why everyone prefers black and also what direction they think the "customizing" scene is headed.

 

It just depends on the person. I like black. Chrome makes me think of rappers and their 22" bling rims.

And even thought Chrome is Flashy.. my black out badges stand out too.. but almost blending in...

Seriously though, black is clean, badass, and just flat out mean. Chrome is horrible, at least in mine and several other minds. It looks tacky, let alone a pain to keep looking 'new' over time. Chrome is dying not just to black, but pretty much color match of what ever color the vehicle is. I dunno how to describe it, but if you don't feel it I guess you don't feel it... everyone's got their tastes.

I should have prefaced this that my original post was in no way a knock against black, I was just wondering what others thoughts were.

I definitely see the appeal for those that are going to have off-road accessories and want to match their bars and such.

 

Have to admit I was not a fan of the black wheel but seeing so many different types on here they started to grow on me and before I knew it.........

Agreed.

Maybe it was just a learned thing through the ages but I've always kept shiny things shiny. Chrome always shined and looked clean, therefore I thought it would be stupid to throw it on a truck that I plan on putting through mud during most of it's existence.

Black is just a color that is very hard to get sick of. I bought my wife a blue Acrua thinking the color was amazing, stuck out nice, etc. After about 3 months, I got sick of the color blue.

 

I like the contrast.

 

Current trend. I'd say it is already at its peak of popularity, if not past it. It has come to the point where soccer moms are rockin' murdered out Tahoes. In 5 years, or less, it will be basically gone.

I'm only 35, but in just that much time I have seen many trends come and go. This one will too.

That's not to say I dislike it. In fact, I think it looks pretty cool.

 

I dunno, blacked out has been around for... well quite a long time.

Yes, it has been around a long time, and you will always continue to see some of it but it won't remain "hot shit". Like I said, Soccer Moms are rockin' it. When the next generation of kids starts driving, they aren't going to style their ride just like mom did when they were in 6th grade. Just doesn't happen. It needs to skip at least one generation to be cool again. Look at any fashion trend in recent history. This isn't any different.

Mark my words.

 

Because IMO nothing looks better than a nice, clean and shiny black truck. Especially after it has been waxed. Before I got my black Tacoma, my original choice was silver for the simple fact that it shows dirt the least, but I just couldn't resist the black!

 

Black accessories are usually cheaper, easier to find, and flows well. Chrome looks cheap, to be honest. Or, you put chrome on your vehicle if that was all you could find at Auto Zone.
