Smoking taillights, 3rd brake light and headlights

Does anyone know what the laws are about smoking these lights? I am considering, but was wondering if it is illegal? I live in Tennessee, does anyone live in my area and has checked this?

 

Definitely depends on your state. I'm in AZ and cops in my town don't give a crap, it's nice.

 

It is illegal to cover your lights with anything.

 

i'm from northwest alabama, as for the actual law, i have no idea. but from past experiences, if the law enforcement officers up there are like they are down here, it is probably whatever the officers' mood is in. i have had friends that have had tricked out cars and I have seen some lawmen write them up for every little detail that wasn't "by the book", and i have seen some stop them just so there can admire and convers about the mods. your best bet would be to call your local d.o.t. and ask them what the regulations are.

 

My tails have been smoked for almost 1 year, and I've had no problems with the cops at all. I live in MD, but have been in DC, VA, PA, NJ, and DE.

If you do anything OVER the headlights, I'd recommend the tinted lexan covers, that way you can take them off in fowl weather and at night.

I had a set of headlight covers that I made for my 1982 Ford EXP, and they were painted to match the paint. A cop pulled me over one day and started giving me crap about them. When I got out of my car, pulled them, and threw them behind the seat (they were held in place with velcro), he shut up, got back in his car, and drove away.

Search for your state's DOT (Dept of Transportation). They should list the laws that apply to your state. There are some differneces between the states, and, as mentioned, differences in what is/isn't enforced. If you don't want any grief, make sure you comply with your local codes.

 

I think you still have to be able to see the reflectors in them but like said before, search your state DOT laws and give them a call
