The first drive was towing my car back from the dealership. 750 klms home.
Love that 'tap' shift down to 4th for the hills.

2li7mrk_525ce663a94addee4bf47c2072287048bfe20e69.jpg I went to Houston and found a 60 Deville that had been sitting since the Carter administration. Cranked it up on a Uhaul auto hauler. Put it behind the 06 Tacoma with tow package. Long ago I added a second trans cooler.
Anyway hauled car 350 miles at 50mph. If I went above 55 it got a little shaky but a tap on the brakes applied the trailer brakes and all was good.
Made sure to stay at 50.
    Truck handled great.
Total weight of car and trailer was a tad over max rating.

This is a fairly typical load I haul about twice a month. Including trailer it's about 5500 lbs.

Just got back from a 3 hour trip with my taco and a 6129lb tow (wife's CX-7 on a uhaul auto transport). It pulled it amazingly! Power nor braking was ever an issue. I did keep it at 55 mph though.

I've been up to about 6650 before. Towed two tons of pellets home and thought the trailer was a few hundred pounds lighter. It did okay, power was adequate. Braking was fine, but I had trailer brakes.

Didn't figure out the true weight of the trailer until I ran scrap with it another time.

I used this before I bought the Tacoma. This load was 6500 lbs.
trailer has brakes. A little more power would have been nice but it towed well all the same.

I am looking to buy a trailer brake controller for my 15 taco. Any recommendations?

It has a bubble inside do it must be mounted well. They work much better than the delay type.

Last weekend, moved my 2700# BX23. Total weight with trailer I figure was around 4500-4600#. Pulled great, way easier than I expected.

20170702_trailer.jpg As has been stated, with the proper setup you can tow safely right up to the stated limit. I towed our trailer on our summer vacation over 2K miles. It's 4200 dry and approx. 5200 loaded. I have a EQ, additional tranny cooler, brake controller with manual slider (used it once), airbags and a OBreader to monitor tranny temps. It tows stable and safe. The only issue of course is the power for hills. I drove over the BC Rockies and aside from being the slowest on the hills, it was fine. The heavier you go just don't expect to go very fast because it will be harder to stop the rig.

Fully loaded the camper is around 3700lbs. Tows like its barely there. WD hitch and sway bar to tow.
