Differential recall...won't get truck until end of September

    its been 2 weeks since i took in my truck for the rear differential recall and they say it's going to take untill the end of September to get my truck back. This really sucks!

    I saw on my appointment for the 10k the recall was listed with parts "ready to order". They don't even have them in stock to fix the issue. Mine was good. Made sure before I took it to them.

    they won't order parts needed until you bring it in, they inspect it
    and determine what is needed.

    Chances are quick likely that the parts are in mass production in China right now. It takes about another 30 days on the water as well.

    Center console divider thingy, rubber bed mat and side steps for the wife.
    Guy at work took his SR5 in, (a leaker) and they told him they would have to keep it for an undetermined amount of time as they did not have parts available yet. Told me he got in his truck and left. Said the back lot was full of Tacos waiting for the recall fix.

    What a mess..

    They gave me a f150 from enterprise because my toyota dealer ran out of cars to give out.

    Took my 2016 Tacoma TRD Sport in for 15K service on June 3 and they found the rear differential leaking. They kept it and I just got it back yesterday (Aug 2). When I asked the service manager about compensation for them keeping my truck hostage for 2 months, he gave me a blank stare. Seems like a couple free services, a car wash, a t-shirt or something would be appropriate for the inconvenience. Anyway, the parts are starting to become available. Hang in there. I had a 2015 Nissan Frontier from Enterprise during this time and it served me well.

    I"m curious. Why would an independent dealer "owe" you anything at all for following a manufacturer's safety campaign? I'm not looking to upset you or anything, I'm just curious as to your rationale behind asking them.

    I would not let them wash my truck... I always make sure they understand that each time I take my truck in to the service department. Service advisor said he understands.

    If the wait time is too long, Toyota recently stated that they will return the customers their trucks if they request it. Tell them you'll return with your truck once they have parts in hand with your name on it.
