I have 2017 Off Road only 8 months old and 7500 miles. Now my work has been adding onto our parking lot and with all the dust blowing around I held off on washing it. Well 3 weeks later I finally wash off all the dust, then while I'm drying it I notice a weird spot. It looks like there is a layer of clear missing, but it's still smooth and not peeling or flaking. So after little research I see that Toyota uses a single stage white and many people have had problems with it in the past. I have a appointment to take the truck in Tuesday and I am hoping they will be taking care of it. Anyone here have a similar problem? Did you have to fight with the dealer to get it fixed?IMG_0893.jpgIMG_1462.jpg It's only this one spot on the hood. It's like having that oil spot in your driveway and water only sticks around the spot.

Not the same situation. But I had several small items under the paint. They were the size of small nerd candies. I brought the vehicle back to the dealer and a rep from Toyota North America came out. He authorized repairs. (Not sure what they did) but they took out all the blemishes in the paint.

I'm sure if you go to the dealer and show them they'll help you out.

just took my 15 to the dealer several days ago because i was concerned i had a spot with missing clear coat. took it to a body shop first to verify adn sure enough. then took to the dealer. several techs said yes missing clear coat. Well actually was there but had some how been stripped. they took pics and are contacting a rep. the head tech said it will probably result in me getting it fixed at a local body shop not on my dime. will keep posted. Take it to the dealer asap, make them fix it

Nope. Don't have the issues here. I would be upset as well. Hope Toyota will fix the problem for you.

For what it's worth it's my understanding the Toyota does in fact use a 2 stage paint (base and clear) on all vehicles now.

Some manufacturers only use single stage on solid colors unfortunately..., but that does look like the clear is off..

I recently saw email correspondence from Toyota corporate to a body shop confirming that ALL Toyota vehicles receive 2 stage paint at the factory.

Thats a huge spot of missing clear coat.

Just out of curiosity....what soap did you use for the wash? I'm assuming you didn't use dish soap from your kitchen.

I just power washed at the same car wash I always go to. It was only covered in dust from all the dirt being moved around so it should've been easy to notice if something spilled on it.

sounds like we've got conflicting info here......can somebody confirm one way or the other if the white trucks come with a clear coat?

If they don't, I'd like to do something to mine to help the paint last. Planning on having this thing 30 years or until somebody t-bones me.

It's been 100*+ here this week and only a day after I noticed it's starting to spread and look more like paint fading. Definitely looks like a clear coat but I'm no paint expert.

Your correct the 040 white is a single stage paint. Toyota has used this for the 2nd and 3rd gen with no clear coat .

My Turd gen hasn't had this problem yet but the paint is more fragile than calcium deficient eggshells. Never had a shitty paint job chip as easily as this one. My 2003 Ford ranger paint must have been Kevlar and epoxy based.

I think they're shooting these things with Rustoleum.
