    Hi All

I recently got approved for a new frame after my motor mount collapsed into the frame at the welds. This was 2 years after Toyota had inspected the frame and deemed it fit. Needless to say they honored the recall and I am now waiting for my frame to arrive.

The question I have is, what should i get Toyota to do in the process regarding new parts. Do things like new break lines etc. come free with the swap? I have upgraded suspension and breaks so they are good however I was thing of getting them to put new mounts for the cab ,bushings in the shifter (Manual Transmission) and a few other bits here and there.

Just looking for some advice from anyone who has already gone through the process.

    Thanks Ned

Had my steering rack replaced when I got my frame done last summer, I have a 2006, have you already had the leaf springs replaced, had mine done with the frame, they sagged compared to the originals but I lifted my truck with an AAL afterwards so all is good.

My boss had a 2006 that got a frame a few years back. He got new control arms, leaf springs, etc. as part of it. I guess Toyota figures it's easier just to do new rather than salvage existing ones that are probably almost as rusty as the frame. I'd suspect cab mounts are part of it too, but I'm not sure. Somewhere on here there's a list of every part they put into them.

As for steering rack, I think they commonly leak. Last time the dealer did anything to my 2011, they told me mine does very slightly, but they wouldn't worry about it. Just keep an eye on the power steering fluid and only worry about if it I start to lose it at a noticeable rate. So far it's been fine.

Upper control arms were part of the recall, I replaced my rear bumper and trailer hitch shortly after I got my frame, the undercarriage of my truck is brand new, not sure where you are located but coat the frame if you are in a high salt area, I used fluid film, worked great.

I look closely at my frame every time I grease the driveshaft. Still looks new even after 6 New England winters and 123,000 miles. Inside of the boxed sections feel smooth. Even put a little scope camera in there recently and it's all still painted. All I've done is pressure wash the whole thing regularly in the winter. I'll put the nozzle in the holes on the cab mounts and the boxed sections of the frame to blow anything out of there too. Metalsa started making the frames in late 2010, I believe. So, that may explain why mine is so much better than the older ones.

Either way, I'm probably only keeping the truck for one more year so I don't think I'm going to invest a lot of time into anything like that.

My hitch is the only really bad looking thing under the truck. I'm constantly cleaning that up and repainting it. Almost bought a new one just because it annoys me.

My 06 frame was replaced a little over a year ago... Took 3-4 months as the frames are made for your vehicle complete with vin.

New brake lines, LCAs, the new new leaf springs, body mount bushings...2 pages of stuff. New wheel cylinder and battery too.

It rode like new for a while.

I have never towed anything, and most likely never will (but things change) my hitch was a mess though and I was in the same boat, was constantly cleaning it up and painting it, I just like everything on my truck to be functional should I ever need it, when I took the old hitch off it was a complete mess.

And good stuff with the frame, seems proper maintenance goes a long way.

I tow occasionally--maybe 4-5 times per year. The hitches still fit fine, but had I ignored it the rust may have built up so they wouldn't by now.

I don't think you get new body mounts and hardware. I bought a 2006 with a replaced frame and if I was the one getting it replaced by Toyota I would replace as much rusty stuff as I could while they have it apart. Any hanger, shield, line, bolt...don't just get a mostly new truck...get a brand new truck!

shocks front and rear would be a good place to start if you need them.

you get new brake (break) lines and lower control arms. body mounts aren't a standard replacement item.

i asked about the clutch, but they said no discount for me on that, although i think others did get a discount. each dealer is different.

I had them do spark plugs and fan belt as the motor is out and so easy to do.

New gas tank straps, good thing as one of mine was a bungee cord from PO.

Any front end parts that are worn.

I did new sway bar bushings, exhaust, brakes all around, bilstein 5100's all around, tires, wheels, hitch/ harness, and maybe some other things I'm forgetting. Basically anything shitty I had replaced.

I didn't get new body mounts, or upper control arms.

I have the work order slip and some things are hard to determine what they stand for. But you get long life coolant, atf,(automatic) brake lines (not the short ones to the wheels) brake fluid, fuel lines, leaf springs, lower control arms, ac recharge, front end alignment, abs wiring harness (parts of it anyway) and a bunch of new bolts and nuts.

Any work that you think you may get a discount on be sure to go over with service manager as they at first will try and change full labour rate. At least in my case.

like posted 2 pages of stuff, major items was the frame and LCAs along with brake lines. they reused as many screw and bolts as they could. I got mew brackets for the anti lock brake lines, but the reused the old screws and one lost its head. now I have no real easy way of getting out that bolt so I can replace it.
