Maybe in 10 years. But, it will cost you front disc brakes.

Alright already! OP here to clear up a few things.

I did not come here to inflame a war! Here are the facts:

I bought the truck with 8k miles from a non Toyota dealer. Test drove the truck for about 5 miles and it felt great. Dropped a personal check for a lot of money and proceeded to put on about 500 miles. During that time I started noticing some strange occurances and started documenting them. I brought a list of things that felt wrong to Toyota and the mech confirmed ALL of them.

Howling front end: Fixed. Thank you Toyota!
Transmission issues: Fixed. Thank you Toyota!
Body vibration during de-cel: Diagnosed, told parts are on order. Thank you Toyota!
Front end, low speed squeak: Confirmed, but not fixed yet. Thanks for looking into it.

At 10k check-up I am now told my truck is not eligible for parts for vibration issue. What? YOU diagnosed it as a problem! Of course I am going to check TSB's for the fix! VIN and trim fall into the category of the TSB and the problem is prominently evident, is driving me crazy, and now is not eligible??? For some of the posters out there, I am not waving TSB's in their face demanding that they work on stuff only I perceive as a problem, they have diagnosed them themselves!

As for the door chime, NOT a seatbelt chime as one poster commented, do this.
If you have a SmartKey, do this yourself.
Open drivers door, turn on ACC. Door chime will start and not quit. Now close driver door and open all other doors. Hear anything? Now close all and open driver door again. Ding, ding, ding, ding. Now start the engine and open the driver door. NOTHING. Now shut off the engine with the driver door open. Ding, ding, ding. What is this stupid ding supposed to be telling me? Now check page 595 of your manual and you will see it can be turned off by the dealer. If this was a safety issue would Toyota let ANYBODY including dealer, turn it off??? My SA agreed to turn it off when I asked that question, just failed to do it. I will again ask to have it turned off (with the same computer they hook up every time you take it in.)

I am NOT bashing the dealer.
I am NOT bashing the truck, in fact I love it!
I AM frustrated that the dealer diagnosed the vibration problem, told me the parts are on order, and then reneged on fixing it. For the poster that said just plug the VIN into a web site to see if it applies to you, be helpful and post the website. I am sure I would not be the only one to benefit from that.

Read carefully and drop the flamethrowers before someone loses an eye!!

There, I feel better. The next time I have to rant, please read more carefully and leave the napalm at home. :)

I think you are rightfully frustrated. Those of us with the other issues have had similar experiences. They diagnose it as a problem, replace the diff, when it comes back, it's not a problem anymore carry on.

    :smash::annoyed:

Edit:eek:nly brought up the diff in context of commiserating

Bringing up J Demello does not really help your argument. His review in the sticky section basically says the third gen suck:rofl:

This is a thread started by me a long time ago. I at least think this is the problem you are talking about. It was not a TSB at that time.

No doubt you have had problems, but I still believe the vast majority of 2016+ Tacoma owners are trouble free. Now, being a vast majority does not make the newer Taco a "turd" gen due to a few hundred who have had issues. 10,8XX miles - trouble free, no-recalls and I expect it to go for a long time. Personally looking back, I'm psyched I got a 2017 and a MT. With the MT this seems to rid of AT complaints. Of course I work with two other folks with who have the 2017 Tacos both AT (SR5 & SR 4cyl) and they LOVE em and have no complaints with the AT. I have a another on my Fire Dept who loves his SR5 AT, so here in my little corner we are 4/4 100% loving the "turd" gen.

There are 6 of us on my Dept with 3rd Gen DC TRD Sports or OR all with AT. One guy complains about his poor mpg in his 17' which is around 16ish but he drives with ETC on and a heavy foot. I average 18+ mpg with my 16' DCLB OR. One guy has done a full Fox lift, sliders, 285's and a camper shell (the works) and he is in the 15-16 mpg range but he has added lots of weight. All 6 of us enjoy our trucks and as a whole not really much to complain about at all.

It is exactly what I am talking about and we have the exact same truck, '16 DCSB 4x4OR, yet you got yours fixed and I am not eligible. What? I fall into the VIN range on the TSB, Toyota already diagnosed the problem by removing the rear driveshaft for troubleshooting, told me parts are on order, then tells me stories two months later that it is '15 and older trucks affected and the DS alignment is within spec. BS! You just diagnosed it for goodness sake and the mech agreed it wasn't right! Front page of the TSB says '16 and '17!!! I am very tempted to drop it off and say "Do what you must to fix it! I'll take that used '17 on the lot as a loaner until you do!!"

Time for a new dealer if I am ever going to get this fixed. Thanks for the link. That was helpful and I promise to stop ranting, at least for now.

Have you spoken to the service manager about this? If they won't help, go above them to the general manager. Try to get them on your side so they want to resolve it and keep you as a customer.

Daaaaammmnnnnn! I just found out by this that I own the worst model Tacoma (07). All of the sudden, I hate my truck though it's been the best vehicle I've owned by far.

I think I understand the context of this comment but just wanted to say that forums are a great tool. However, it is difficult at times to weed through post to find it useful. As a guy that doesn't have a vast automotive mechanical knowledge, I find this place valuable. Especially when someone had probably encountered the same problem I may have. I'm not scared to get dirty, pick up tools, and buy another tool I don't own. I don't even know how much money I have saved from the knowledge shared here. And in the end, a larger sense of pride, knowledge and confidence is gained.

I understand most of your previous points but I also don't discredit other owner experiences. It comes down to the art of deciphering the text.

I also understand your comment about coming in and citing the net about problems. But, I believe that there is credit to doing you homework on the internet or from others. I think it's more of how you communicate. You may have better footing if you simply express concerns of your findings and let the pro diagnose it. I do the same with my Dr. but do it tactfully without it being a matter of fact. Being a tradesman, I have respect for someone that comes to me with concerns, wether they heard it from a friend or (blank), and let me assess the situation. Now, if they come to me telling me what it is, then it's a different story.

Well dude, I recognize that avatar. You aren't from Arizona, you don't own a third gen, you aren't over 50. Those are really the only forum sections I go to. So, HOW do I recognize your avatar? Because you are in the third gen forum stirring up shit.
Thats my perception. Go away, and take care yourself.

Been to AZ, want a turd gen, did not mean to stir up anything, except a hornets nest, and I am over 50. I also got under your collar. Winning. Grow up, and yes, you take care also. Hope this is over now young man.
