Hate to hear that man! Best of luck in finding it! Hopefully it turns up somewhere. If not I hope your insurance takes good care of you!

Having had a truck stolen and recovered trust me you don't want it back. My truck was stolen what I got back was a stolen vehicle that I despised every time I drove it.

OP'er - that's a great looking truck. Surely somebody will spot it soon enough. Sorry to hear about this and hope you get it back.

Its not that great. Mine was broken into a few years back and the alarm never went off. A guy used a long screw driver to pry between the window and the door on the passenger side to the point where it shattered the glass. He then leaned in and took everything from the glove box and center console never opening the door. Good news is he was caught 3 weeks later and I got all my papers back from the local police.

Installed new hood with "hood-scoop". Installed Predator Side Steps. Also installed a new external TPMS monitor for all 4 tires.
I hate hearing shit like this happening!

But that's just the cold hard fact that it does happen and believe me it's a sick death feeling walking out to your truck and finding it gone, where you know you left it. One can't help but feel violated then complete anger over-whelms you. The reason why I know this is because it's happen to me.

Back in 1986 I had purchased a brand new Toyota X-Tra Cab (as it was known back then, yes the early predecessor's to the Tacoma's). I loved that truck! I had the best alarm, that I could afford, installed in it along with another anti-theft device that would hook to the steering wheel and brake pedal and would use a key lock (trying to keep piece of mind, yea right!).

Now my truck wasn't tricked out or anything like it. It was pretty much basic, with the nice rims/wheels and big tires, etc. but always kept it looking nice and clean.

I had the truck for like almost 10 years. Nine and half years later it got broken into (broken glass on the drivers side, alarm goes off, etc.). Insurance fixes everything. A month later, I walk out of my apartment to the parking spot where I normally would park it and well it's not there, gone! Look around foolishly thinking and hoping that just maybe I may have forgotten and parked it somewhere else but in reality I know it's gone-stolen!

File a police report, a day later get contacted by the police and they tell me that they found my truck and to contact the city's vehicle pound (where they take and store vehicles that are found, wrecked, etc.). When I arrive there they take me to where my vehicle is located on the lot and just looking at it I didn't even want to claim it. It had been completely stripped! I mean everything was gone on it, seats, all interior, dash, tail lights, headlights, front grill, etc. All that remained was the shell. No dents, scratches or wreckes believe it or not just the shell remained.

Yes, the insurance replaced everything on it. Once I got it back from the dealership where it was taken to and basically restored my truck once again felt practically brand new! I was very happy to say the least.

A few months later, again my truck is gone from the parking lot of my apartment complex! After filing a police report again, later that day I get a call from the police saying that my truck was found in an abandon lot at the end of a dead end street where it was covered up, like whoever stole it was trying to hide it to strip it later or ?

After that I said "fuck this" and moved out of that apartment complex and into a rented house.

Everything seem good until late November of 1995. Once again, I walk out the door ready to go to work and my trucks not parked in the driveway, again it's gone-stolen!

File another police report and yes that was my last one because that truck was "never found-ever"! Even to this very day, never been located.

Who in the fuck knows whatever happen to it-it's history to me now and always will be.

OP'er, I sure hope your truck is found and returned to you. Good Luck on that!

There were a few years in the mid 80s, that Toyota put the ignition lock cylinder in the column, but did not include locking steering. So, all the thief had to do was take the screws out of the plastic clamshell, take 1 screw out of the electrical switch, stick a screwdriver in the switch, start it up and go. Years ago, there was a guy in my area that was stealing a lot of them. He obviously knew what years and took one whenever he needed transportation.

The first generation 4Runners are super easy to break into and steal. The fiberglass hard tops have pretty much all warped to where you can usually just slide the rear windows open, reach in, and unlock the door. Mine started with a screwdriver or knife. I hope whoever did this gets permanent dysentery.

Oh believe me it was hell going through it all. At one point the insurance company was starting to question if I was the one trying to fix it to where I was having it stolen so that I could get another vehicle (since it was coming up on 10 yrs old). Which really pissed me off since I now was being accused of it.

I raised hell with them about that and told them that I would do whatever means possible to clear myself of it. Told them that I would talk to a lawyer and sue, even go an call a local tv station that looked into shit like that with their investigation team, etc. for false accusations, etc. and believe it or not they backed off that real quick.

I've always kept my vehicles for 10 years or longer and still do to this very day.

A shock sensor could have been useful.

You know right after going through all that shit, etc. on a stolen vehicle I always thought that going the extra mile for security, after installing what I thought was a top notch alarm and plus that extra security anti-theft device etc. and spending all that extra $ for it all.

Well come to find out all that shit was really worthless!

What I mean by this is because no matter what type of security device you have installed on your vehicle, once your vehicle is targeted there's really nothing, I mean nothing that's going to stop thieves from stealing it. The very first time that my Toyota was broken into the alarm did go off but after the 2nd and 3rd times the thieves already knew how to by pass it and that extra anti-theft device with a lock and key I mentioned. Well the cops laughed and said that, that was really worthless because all the thieve's would do to cut that was use a small hand held compact blow torch to cut that cheap metal in like under a minute.

Believe me if they want it they're going to take it.

I had my factory security system re-worked after this incident and have multiple shock sensors installed now.

Seems there are 4 main senarios that work out in these cases.

    1) Kids and joy ride that ends with no damage or minor damage.

    2) Kids and joy ride that ends in a mess.

    3) Pros or semi pros that move it to a enclosed place and immediately begin part out.

    4) Pros that have a rig like that on a ship heading overseas within 24 hrs of nabbing it. That vehicle is a gold mine in any Central or S American country.

Good luck OP, hope it works out!

Either with scenario 1 or a healthy insurance pay out.

Im sure most "theives" dont own flatbeds, or want to spend the time (and noise) to hook it up when they can move to the next one with the doors unlocked.
