Front Body Mount Noise Fix - That noise may not be your leaf springs

My 17 with 800 miles. The first pic is the passenger side and it was rubbing a groove in the metal sleeve. Second pic is driver side was almost there. After looking at these I believe there is an assembly line issue that's causing somehow the body to slide forward and pinch that rubber on assembly because it's not rubbing through the rubber, it's pinched through it and then it rubs. Took a little mirror and looked up in the mount and I'm fairly certain that if you just reassemble with new stock mount it would probably be ok. Having said that I'm gonna try to not go with the energy suspension urethane and make a little bushing/sleeve using my stock mounts. I'll keep everyone posted take a few pics when I'm ready

 

Just curious, why not just go with the energy bushings?

 

I'm not a huge fan of polyurethane body mount bushings, they have issues being so hard they transmit more noise and they can also squeak in time. However I may end up going that route but at this time I want to try something else , I really believe it's an assembly issue.

 

Cool, understood. From what i have been reading/seeing the bushings that come with the full body mount kit from ES are much softer than the universal ones. I put in the ones from the full kit and they are pretty soft, but not as soft as the stock crap. After install the truck rides great and i don't feel or notice any more noise or bumps than with stock. It actually feels better i think, but might just be psychological lol. Anyways, just wanted to let you know how mine worked out in case you do switch to the ES. Keep us posted

All - My truck is in the shop for a leaking rear differential (5/5/17) and it was also diagnosed this morning with bad front bushings. Stay tuned for what’s next on the repair list.

 

I tried using a pry bar and the angle was bad, would not bite. After a lot of muscle and swearing I switched to a 23mm box wrench. No idea why, but did the job with finger-tip pressure. Angle was just right

After bushing replacement (which were shot to hell), I still had a soft creak during lot maneuvers. Ended up being upper and lower spring perches. Hit them with boeshield 3+ weeks ago, still quiet.

 

I am getting a front any noise from both sides but it's normal even when parked and I turn my steering wheel. It is also feels at times that there's a a slight grinding going on at Parker lot speeds. Is it safe to assume my issues are something more than this?

 

Maybe tires are rubbing?

 

If you are on stock bushings, they may or may not be the cause. If they are not shot, they likely will be soon. I would swap them. I replaced them, still had some creaking. I hit the top and bottom spring perches with boeshield and it took care of it.

 

@Victory can you tell me if the bolt comes up from the top when removing? I have an ARB bumper so it's super easy to get to the bushing however the bumper mount is in the way. I was working on my TC UCAs thinking they were to blame for the squeak when I noticed the squeak was actually coming from somewhere else. I got out my mechanic's stethoscope and was able to clearly hear the squeak from the bushing. After visually examining the bushing, it's clearly failing. I used your photo to draw where I am thinking of using a wrench to hold onto the nut and then use either another wrench or a socket to actually loosen the bolt from the top and pull it out the top. Is that similar to the way you did it?

 

sorry if i missed it, are the cab mount bushings the same part number for the third gens as the second?

 

could be sway bar bushings potentially in that case.

 

Took your advice on the wrench and it worked like a charm. Driver's side was a royal PITA for sure and I'm wondering if I'm going to have to do this again a year down the road because of the misalignment of the frame and body.

Has anyone checked the VIN to see if the bushing problem is specific to one Tacoma plant?

 

Believe it is a design problem as I is a well known 2nd gen issue as well but perhaps.

 

This is probably a silly question to ask, but i ordered the

$28 energy suspension 9.4101g UNIVERSAL MOUNT

energy suspension 9.4101g suggested in these forums and it seems like my top upper half is different than the ones OP posted.


OP posted the picture above. His upper half shows a mount that doesn’t have any metal on it.



The mount on the right in the picture above is the mount that i got in my 9.4101 kit.

My question is do I install the ones i got the same way OP and everyone else installed theirs? Top mount is mounted with the metal thing going through the hole in the body frame?

Has anyone began experiencing a popping sound coming from the new mounts? My driver's side seems to pop when making turns or going over bumps. Thought it was just loose so I tightened it up which helped for a few days but it's back again. I noticed now that when I go to tighten it up, I can hear the same popping.

 

Mine is making the same front body mount squeak after installing the new energy suspension bushings. It has only been installed for a month
