That happened to me to. I just stapled the loose straps back then covered the edges in that black 3m goop.

Just did this for my truck. I went to Walmart and picked up some velcro. It was industrial strength and was adhesive on the back. I put a little super glue on the back for extra strength. I love it works great.

Funny you ask, I actiactually used the Klein scissors that are pictured and talked about in this thread. The internal stiffener is thick white plastic. The scissors cut through it but some tin snips may be easier. Good luck!

"You have to cut a couple notches about 1cm in from the edge" my ass. I'm almost 1/2 INCH in and still have yet to clear those bars and am about to completely destroy this thing trying to get it in...might wanna rethink this one...

Update: finally got it installed, but basically had to cut out the entire outer edge of the piece to clear those notches...a little more than 1 cm in, just saying...

Awesome idea, thanks for sharing! Here's how mine came out. Had to take my time cutting out the notches in order to preserve the straps. I used wire cutters to cut the depth. Used a hammer and a flathead screwdriver to chizzle out the rest. Used sandpaper to smooth out the newly cut notches. Used six strips of sticky back velcro which basically covered the entire surface area under the center console.

Mine keeps coming loose, not sure if I'm using the wrong type of Velcro or not enough but I used two strips of industrial strength Velcro.

The come in different sizes. Maybe you got the wrong one. Mine worked great in my '13. Actually no trimming at all.

Of course you don't tell us what year truck you are struggling with either.......... maybe that matters.
