SR5 vs TRDOR

Toyota's website sucks (but that isn't limited to Toyota, all manufacturer websites suck). What are the actual upgrades going from an SR5 to a TRD-OR? Modes/crawl-control/locking-rear-dif are the big ones, as far as I can tell. What are the rest?

Edit: I went for a test drive, and my salesman was a dick. Tried to steal the sale from my first guy, didn't listen to what I was saying, just a bad experience. The shitty power didn't help any, either. Drove away in a new 2017 F-150. Same 3.5L displacement but a pair of turbos for a lot more kick. Huge cabin, more cargo and towing capacity, a lot more technology.

 

Additional upgrades include push button start standard, entune premium audio system standard with navigation, daytime LED running lights, and hydraulic brake booster.

I guess you can decide if the off road is worth the extra $2k.
A double cab SR5 4x4 with appearance package stickers for $34,830 and a TRD OR DC 4x4 stickers for $36,743 without the tech package.

 

Bilstein shocks are standard on the OR. Some like me prefer the matte black fender flares and front bumper.

 

Will you be modding the suspension?
Do you feel you will ever really use the locker?

If you plan to mod and lift, then the TRD OR suspension will be tossed out anyways, save the cash to spend on modding the SR5.
If you do not plan to do too much off roading, the lockers on the Off Road may never really get used or needed.

If I could do it over again there is a good chance Id get the SR5 quicksand I had negotiated down to 31k at the dealer and saved myself 5k vs getting my Quicksand TRD OR.
I am taking all the stock suspension off soon, and I do not see myself ever needing the lockers. So pretty much I paid 5k extra for TRD OR sticker, and black fender flares, and a few other minor things.

 

Is the power sliding rear window available on the SR5?

 

It's still manual on the SR5 models I believe. The TRD and limited models have the power sliding window.

 

I will trade you my sr5 rear axle for yours.

 

You pretty much nailed the big ones. Also the optional 6 manual.

 

The cost is worth it to me just for the comfort my wife get from the TRD Seats. They ease my wife's back pain to make the drive more comfortable.

 

This is the only thing I wash my 17' sr5 had that it doesn't.

 

I agree completely. I am totally satisfied with my SR5, just wish it had the power slider...but, then again, it's not a big deal to just slide it open.

 

If the SR-5 was available with V6/6MT, I would have bought one.

I was fairly certain the OR has a different rear axle than the sr5 and sport, but I may be imagining reading that.

I also feel bad for you guys reading some of these prices. My OR was 32k otd. But I also got a stick, tow package, and that's it.

I'll upgrade the suspension eventually but I didn't plan to do that for a few years. The OR suspension has been great for me to wheel in the short term. I also stand by the idea that none of the plethora of folks here that say 'you dont need a locker' have ever actually gone wheeling anywhere more serious than an unpaved county road. My locker has gotten me out of some pretty hairy shit twice and I'm glad I have it.

 

The brochure is fine, but the builder isn't. If it's not in inventory, it doesn't let you pick every option except the "accessories" that they can add at the dealership.

 

TRD models also have a bigger nav screen. 7 inch vs 6 inches if I remember correctly. As we all know, every inch counts!

 

I agree, the web sucks, and so do the dealers. You have to edumacate yourself. The TRDOR gives you a softer suspention which I like for the bad roads in NJ, and don't forget, you get a pair of TRD stickers.

 

Buy the 6MT/TRD OR 4x4.

Just like @Jibbs mentioned, I negotiated to 32k+CA Taxes 35k OTD.

Save yourself money, plus you get a better transmission, and all the goodies the SR5 doesn't have.

And yes, the locker+ATRAC is worth it.

Don't let anyone fool you. Better to have it and not need it, then to need it and not have it.

Better resale value as well.

I will say, stock suspension sucks. I bottom out everywhere off-road in the rear with just a few passangers. They definitely need to be upgraded in the future, but I'll wait a while, due to budget.

 

Get the Sport MT - SKEWP give 10hp and bigger balls! . I would have gone for the SR or SR-5, but I could not get a MT so that went right out the window....

 

I have the Entune audio plus with app suite and navigation and the tow package also came with my SR5, and mine was listed for 36995 and I got it for 34, maybe a little higher but I was happy..but I did upgrade the audio system with OEM audio plus speakers & amp..sound 100time better.
