Ah didn't know nightshades made a red. I've used testers translucent candy apple red before to cover up the yellow turn signal on taillights and it was a near perfect match on my Celica.

 

Yes, and it sprayed wonderful. Quick wetsand and it's like glass. I'm defiantly doing a clear over them but my concern is the sandblasted "frosted" center section. Once clear hits it, will make it clear again(I don't want that). Paint and body is a little outside my expertise.

 

What grit did you use to "frost" the lens? I think 320 would do and even clearing it, it should hold the look. What about something that will etch the plastic?

 

Sandblasted with 100 silicon carbide.

 

Hmm, and applying clear coat, makes it appear normal afterwards? If you pull the lenses apart I would blast it from the inside then

 

Doesn't make it crystal clear, just takes away some of the frosted look.
That's what I will prob do. Mask off the strip and hit it from the inside.

 

Here is some clear over it. Red tint took it perfect, the orange didn't play well.. clear made it less translucent. Wtf
Good thing I have a few more sets of lights

 

Maybe hit the orange part with paint thinner quick since it's not cured

 

Yes, but only if all lights are robust, dense, LED arrays. Not just an LED bulb in a reflector.

@mesojdm you're using limited tails correct? Probably a pain in the ass but maybe just do the paint work and frosting from the inside of the clear lens

 

Yes I am using limiteds. That's my next test.. from the inside

 

I am not a fan yet. I like the original design. Sub'd to be impressed
