Be careful with that "right to work" stuff. It's a misnomer for one. Has nothing to do with getting or keeping a job. When people read/say it, they think it's good for the average person. That is by design. It's a propaganda tool. It's primary objective is to eliminate unions. The reality is wages drop and benefits get cut almost immediately in right-to-work states.

Right-to-work is just another tool used by the groups like ALEC and SPN to divert money upward and widen the gap between the haves and have-nots, thereby stretching the middle class even thinner than it already is.

For the record, I'm non-union and I'm okay with paying my "fair share."

I had to go with the temporary (one year) shackle flip. Also waiting on the new hangers.

The stock ones couldn't be bent back with my primitive tools and skills.

The hanger kept bouncing back. Felt like I was hitting the end of a coil spring. Heat it up first?

maybe an oxy tank to help justify the DP plate/placard?

While I'm sure the owner has some justified reason, every time I see a lifted/offroad beefed out rig like this with a DP plate, makes me think of the little old couple with a wheelchair at Costco who can't park close to the front entrance o_O

They got greedy and had too much power. If I remember correctly, their benefits packages were out of control.

Without a way for employees to organize and negotiate wages and working conditions, we end up working longer hours and competing for increasingly fewer jobs for increasingly lower wages. It becomes a situation where you're not paid what you're worth, you're paid what you're willing to take because you have to feed your family. All that money that was spent on providing a decent wage and health benefits goes to making fat pockets fatter.

For example: you won't work for less than $26 an hour because you think your skillset commands that wage, but there's an equally-skilled guy that's been out of work and has bills to pay and mouths to feed who's willing to do it for $17 an hour. What do you do? It becomes a desperate bidding war for the lowest wage you're willing to accept.

I totally agree unions suck in a lot of ways, but I think everyone except the corporations and their lobbyists (and the politicians that do their bidding) loses if they disappear. If we have less money to spend, there's less money going into local economies which means less tax revenue.

    In the end, Walm*rt wins.

Right, and you haven't even factored in the illegals who are pushing wages even lower in the construction industry. Electrical, plumbing, carpentry, roofing, drywall. Any Union guys in those fields are getting hammered. My General Contractor buddies are being lowballed by Generals that will hire illegals.

True, but that's one segment of the job market. Pushing wages and compensation down to that level across the board is the "right-to-work" end game.

What would it take to level the playing field? Harsh fines, permanent loss of contractor's license, jail time for GCs that get caught using illegal labor? I honestly don't know, but I believe there is a solution.
