I had a meniscus repair on my left knee, ACL surgery on my right knee both on a Friday and did an Iron Man on Sunday.

Well No in my case, I'm pretty happy with the AT choice. When I ordered my OR DC SB 6Cyl, I was tempting to pull the trigger for the MT. Actually I tested both transmissions before buying the truck; but then I remembered that this vehicle is my daily driver for this horrible traffic, so I went for the AT and so far no regrets at all. Also, I can add that the hill assistance feature comes only with the AT (for OR only I think), so it was another big excuse to favor the AT over the MT (which only comes with an empty space for your sunglasses). Pretty happy with my truck selection, and until now, with 11.5K miles on the odometer, I have zero issues so far (except maybe for the EPA estimated of 20-23mpg... as I barely get 18-19 mpg in HWY.

My AC TRD Sport MT has it. So does my Mustang GT lol. I know how to start on a hill too, been driving manuals for almost 30 years!

I'm happy with my AT Tacoma, and would definitely not trade for a manual.

I like M/T vehicles . I learned on a manual and drove a manual for several years, but it would be a major pain in the ass to have a M/T daily driver if you live in a city with any type of traffic.

Nope. Automatic is strange, but I enjoy relaxing in traffic on the way home. I only enjoy manual transmissions with small zippy cars.

For the "hill holder" you mean that it has an "auto breaking" if the truck senses going back, right?

have the sport and it holds its self for a moment or two on a hill. As for the empty sunglasses holder, mines not empty. And it's very debatable if that "stuff" that is in place of the "empty" sunglasses holder is worth it.

Wish I passed on the Tacoma all together, even without the AT issues... Not a hater, but it's not much more than a pretty shell of a truck that just leaves you wanting more... More power, more mpg(never got close to the epa numbers), more comfort, more space, more confidence that the AT knew what it was doing. Bottom line, expensive mistake I couldn't live with any longer. Good luck Taco peeps... Anybody want a Leer shell?

Yeah, my bad I was thinking of the "crawl control" feature no hill assist as this comes with several packages.

That's weird. My OR doesn't have it and I couldn't get the Toyota website to show any 6MTs with it, which doesn't make any sense since the MTs are the ones that benefit from it.

I've been driving manual transmissions for 40+ years and my daughter's Forrester is the first one I've driven with Hill Assist. It really reduces the stress for new MT drivers.

I did test drive a manual '17 model during my shopping and loved the feel of the shift. The deal breaker was it was 4x2 and access cab.

At work we had an '82 Chevy c20 with a 4 speed that has a granny gear. Transmissions in trucks sure have come a long way! If I feel the itch to shift, I'll grab one of the 22RE 5 speed pickups that we use at work and slam gears on those.

My theory of why the OR and Pro do not have it is because of the different style of brake booster we have.

That's interesting that they discourage special ordering, guess they don't want money. I know here on the Big Island they special order no problem the turnaround time can be ridiculous though. MT crew cabs in all trims are brought here and as far as I've been told by a buddy, who is a salesman at Big Island Toyota, they cannot keep them in stock long enough display.
