I've heard this too. I ran 3 or 4 tanks doing my best to not go over 2500rpm ever and while cruising maintain 2000 or less. Some of the worse MPGs I've seen for my truck. I don't think I broke 12mpg. I typically get 16-17 driving like I would normally.

My MPG? It's like a truck with e-load tires, non-stock wheels and other stuff on it. I just go get gas when I need it.

I also have a bike when I don't want to pay for gas, but it's an 18 mile round trip to my work and I have to drop my kids off so that fucker has dust on it.

I've averaged between 21.5 and 22.5 since we bought the truck 6 months ago (2012 DCSB, bought with 80k, now at 90k miles fully stock).

My girl commutes in it, it's basically flat highway driving but on a two lane coastal road, so it's like highway driving at 35 mph for 45 mins each way to work. We must be hitting a sweet spot for mpg

This past weekend was 22.7. I couldn't believe it :kona:

    A lot
    2012 DCSB 4x4 V6 with +/- 98k on the odo.

5100's @ .85 with a low range 7/8" block in the rear to restore the factory rake ratio.

It's had 265/75/16 (54lbs) STmaxx's for 34k, then 265/75/16 Michelin LTX (47lbs) (e load) since April, and just put on 265/70/17 Cooper A/T3's (49lbs) (e load) on FJ steelies this past Saturday. Curious to see what the MPG will be with the wheels adding a few lbs per corner.

Ive kept up with Fuelly since July 2015:
    40,593 miles driven
17.42 mpg - not doing the calculation to account for larger tires (miles x 1.0349 = total miles).
    $4,682.97 spent on gas

nothing in the bed usually other than fly fishing equipment and a cooler.

Avg Mpg since 49.5k miles(bought the truck) 19-22mpg.
Might see a slight decrease due to bigger tires but I drive like a grandpa and usually go 73 on the highway and hit cruise so my rpm's are low around 2k. So hopefully wont see a major decrease.

I also noticed the longer it took me to get up to speed, the longer I was getting low mpg. Getting up to speed faster seemed to net better mpg, obviously not hammering it, but basically accelerating at a normal rate.

    With 4banger, 4.88s and 245/75s I run about 3450 rpm at 75. I get a solid 15 at that rpm, though I'm generally running 80 and get 14-14.25.

Mine sucks. City driving sucks. I can get 13.8 consistently driving a stock Sport V6 like an old man

It's weird how some v6 get good mileage and some get shitty , I have a 4x4 v6 as I mentioned before in this thread and I've been averaging 19-20 now that I changed plugs and air filter . I was getting around 17.2 before the change thou

It is odd indeed, but mileage figures seem to be played with a lot or we are on different theories of how to read the mileage? Some use the onboard computer figures. I use the solid figures (miles traveled divided by gallons pumped into the tank). Tire size throws off the figures a little. Stock tires (265/70-16) are accurate miles and our 1" taller tires (265/75-16) slow the odometer down about 4%. 14-15 MPG in town and 17-19 on the highway has always been my typical range with sometimes an extreme good (20 MPG) or bad (13 MPG) in the mix.

After I have changed the air filter, spark plugs, switched to synthetic oil, added Techron, the mileage is unchanged from the ranges I posted.

The only time I see my numbers improve is when I run Mexican (Pemex) gasoline, which is free from Ethanol. Adding corn to our fuel hurts our mileage. Sadly, we are not provided fuel options in California as other states have. Going to Baja is my only relief from the 10% Ethanol diluted gasoline.

Great... so is your gasoline containing 10% ethanol, or is it 100% gasoline?
I would love to get 18 MPG average.

The gas by me is "up to 10% ethanol" according to the pump . I was getting worse 17's normal with 15's running the AC .

We have 1 place sort of near me (about 15 miles away) that sells straight gas .... I've been wondering what it would do for my mpg is I used it . I wonder how I would figure out mathematically if it's cheaper to run that instead of ethanol mixed gas

It is more expensive , the non ethanol gas is 3.30 a gal now where ethanol gas is 2.49 now

Any particular reason (besides adding arb lockers/and the added weight) that you changed to 4.88s but stuck with the 245s? Any plans to go up to 33s or 35s? Just curious as im considering 33s next time around on my 2.7 and am trying to decide between 4.56s and 4.88s..

I have stock suspension, and 265/70/17 bfg's and I get about 15.5mpg. City driving. I drive about 20 miles a day (including lunch breaks and after work pit stops). I get about 260 miles out of a tank of gas. When I had the stock wheels I got about 300 miles a tank

Stock 2015 SR5 AC V6 4x4 - have averaged 19.5 since buying the truck in Nov. 2014, a little worse in winter and better in summer. Not much highway driving now that I've retired and live in VT

Simple but awesome TacomaWorld mods (e.g. heated mirrors, LED's, max A/c mod etc.) have added many hp without hurting MPG :D

Maybe we just have better gasoline here in CO (no, do not move here, fuck off). I average 17 - 17.5 mpg city/highway combined, with a 3" lift and 285/70/17 load range E tires. I also have a mild lead foot.
