    OME BP-51 coilovers lift kit
    Hello,

Over the weekend I had a slight disaster to my Tacoma. I recently at 2500 miles installed an OME BP-51 coilovers kit. I had taken the truck on several small camping and trail trips. Then last week at 5130 I took the truck to the dealer for its 5k service. Everything checked out good (including all boxes indicating drive shaft boots and nuts and bolts on chassis). I took my truck for another small trip this weekend, and I start to notice some serious issues. The lower ball joint mount that connects the lower control arm to the spindle was missing a bolt and the other was 50% of the way out. My CV Axle was also separated at the inboard joint tulip.

I know when I did the installation of the coilovers that I was meticulous about checking the torque settings, but I also know the dealership is going to say it's my fault, but does anyone think I have a leg to stand on? The truck has just over 100 miles since that service.

Next thing is if I do have to fix myself I'm feeling I need to replace the whole CV Axle because I managed to get the Axle back together but The tripod has a ton of play within the tulip. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? Is there a retainer I could have lost? I don't see anything on the service manual indicating this.

I can post pictures tomorrow when I have some light.

I can't imagine the lift causing enough forces and torque to remove two M16 Fine Pitch bolts, especially when it's seen plenty of trails before it went to the dealer for inspection.

I would check the threads on the knuckle and see if those got damaged. If not just replace the axle and get new bolts make sure to use Loctite..

Does anyone have any idea about the knuckle or tripod assembly within the inboard side of the CV Axle? The only info I can find is from older models, and the dealership made me think there was something special about the 2016+ CV axles...

It appears to be the same, but local parts stores don't seem to have a listing for a 2016+ Axle.

I'm not sure mine needs to be replaced because judging from some old documents I've found from a 2014 CV the only pieces in that knuckle is the tripod and a snap ring. So if both of those are there all I need to do is replace the clamp and I'm good to go?

No leg to stand on is my bet, unfortunately. You mod at your own risk. Did you piss somebody off at this dealership? That sucks.

Well, this is whats going on with mine. Its currently getting replaced as we speak at toyota of orange.

I marked it, so just in case they wanna cut corners and get lazy and not replace the entire thing. I'll know.

Unless you have a serious friend at the dealership, no way this will be covered under warranty.

Sorry man, sucks, but that's the risk with mods and "paying to play"

That bolt looks absolutely demolished by the way. Not only is the thread stripped but it looks like it is bent, like it was being side loaded? Is that the angle of the camera making it look like that? I would make sure you know the root cause of that bolt taking that bad of a beating so soon or else you might find yourself in the same situation (or worse) once you fix it.

I've removed those bolts and the cv 100x and never had an issue like this

Will not be covered if they see the lift
