    Hey all,

I'm currently just lurking around as a Mazda 5 owner (07 GT, 5MT), I test drove a brand new Tacoma yesterday (double cab, 6MT with TRD Sport and leather package, I'd probably omit the leather part) and it was awesome, I thought my dad's 07 Access Cab with 4 banger and 4AT was fast lol. I don't know how much offroading I plan to do although I do a lot of camping so the Tacoma may open a lot of roads to me, but the main reason is that with a lot of home renovations I've been doing at home, I've been abusing my 5 with loads it has no business carrying... most recently 36 8x8x8 stone masonry blocks which must weigh over 1000 lb. While I would be proud of all the rear interior scuffs if it was in the bed of a truck, it must be doing bad thing to my 5's resale value. My only complaint with the Tacoma is that the double cab with manual only comes with a short bed but for the sake of being able to park in Vancouver it may not be a bad thing, the bed extender will be a must have accessory regardless. Anyway no firm decision has been made yet, my wife and I both like the truck very much but any purchase decision will come at least three months from now when she goes back to work from mat leave (got a nine month old son :D). For now I'll just check all of your rides. :)

Just buy one , you won't go wrong , the long bed is not an issue to park once you drive it for a bit and the extra length in the bed is a plus for hauling stuff ,

    Welcome from a fellow BC'er

I've had Taco envy for quite awhile but never have really been able to justify buying a truck until now! That envy could grow though. See this ---> :D green with envy.

    Thanks!

The access cab was a bit tight to get a rear facing baby seat into, although he's only rear facing for another 3 months.

Is it possible to get a manual double with long bed though? And that's like what a foot longer than an access with long bed? I thought I was genius parallel parking my dad's Taco once, and with about 18 inches to spare on either side of the truck too. So a foot longer would mean I would have 12 inches either side... I've parallel parked my 5 with less than 12 inches either way before so all good! Thanks, where in BC? I'm in Mission.

    Hello, Ontario!

The Tacoma and its predecessor has always been the best compact pickup truck in the market!

Actually you can get the double cab and access cab in manual. :) Tacoma's one of the only pickups out there you can get with a double cab in manual... Nissan Frontier's one, Ford F-250 and F-350 is another. I can't think of any more!

I'm not a Canucks fan but sure they seem promising this year. :) Good luck! lol.

I just like you wanted a DC 6ft bed with a 6spd manual, but unfortunately they don't sell them over here in Canada, so I settled for a short bed trd sport. I just recently discovered that US market has the option (please correct me if I'm wrong on this one) of DC LB MT. If I knew that at the time I would have tried importing one from states. There was numerous times that that one extra foot would have made loading stuff that much easier for me, but that can be fixed to some extent with a bed extender. In any case don't let that be a deal breaker, cause its a great little truck and since you live so close to the border, maybe try finding on from the states.

Do you mean the TRD Sport Package? The Tacoma I test drove was a Double Cab TRD Sport with Leather package in manual (plus a few dealer added accessories, tonneau cover, bluetooth, side step bars, came out to $40k or so).

The short bed is not a deal breaker especially with the 6500 lb towing capacity. :) I don't think you can get the long bed with the double cab in manual in the US either.

DKazzed , sorry you're right , I got confused with your question , what I meant to say is you can't get the TRD Sport longbox in manual . This is what I wanted to get at the beginning . I am a residential builder and I felt the auto tranny was a small price to pay in order to get the 6' box . Now I'm used to the auto , I love it and feel I definitely made the right decision .

I ended up with a TRD Sport longbox 4x4 with the towing package , no leather as I would probably destroy the seats .

BTW get seat covers as your first mod if you are renovating as you said above ,
