Yes the antenna is tuned and grounded. The cb is what my dad used when he was in various 4x4 clubs in the early 80's.

Get a mid price range decent radio and then find a CB shop/electronics shop....Have them "peak and tune" the radio. You can take a 4 watt "out-of-the-box" CB and get close to 30 watts for around $20 usually.

I like Firestik II antenna's. Secret is mounting them properly, grounding the mount, and get an antenna that doesn't require a "ground plane". (unless you want to mount it on the roof or hood)

For you guys that watched the "Week of Wheelin'" video....I'm going to be picking collective brains of a few of those guys for ideas to liven' up the activities @ Black Mountain. In particular, looking for prize give-aways, and yes, we do need to adopt the PINK HELMET deal on ALL our trail meets.

What was the significance of the helmet? I didn't watch the whole video, skimmed and then jumper to the part where they're in the best state of the Union

Neither is bashing trucks into rocks and mudholes.....BUT.....That's what we do.

If you're mounting an antenna in a place where there is no ground plane, an antenna designed as a NGP becomes the way to go. I'm not much on hopping out of the cab every time a mag mount antenna gets swept off the cab by a tree limb. What I have works, and stays where I put it. I get close to 20 miles reception on the highway, and excellent RX/TX in the woods. I'm thinking what I have is the best for what I do.

Get stuck...or get winched....you sign your name on the helmet and wear it until the next person gets stuck

It's a "state in question" OK....The question may be WHY....
