I think this is why FIPG is used, it doesnt break off like RTV... a small bead, maybe 1/8" thick.

Should you leave it a bead or spread it evenly on the mating surface?

Yes JJ, that is true oil pressure does drop with a clogged filter, but I wonder if it is really because oil is not circulating?
It must be that the oil is circulating more, no?
For that matter I do not think that Saul's drop in oil pressure is caused by this as he apparently has changed the filter a number of times since purchasing the truck.
We would all wish for a simple fix.

    Here's my point...
These 2/3RZ engines all have a pressure relief valves purposed to reduce pressure in the case of a clogged or clogging filter.
The valve serves as a bypass to recirculate the oil away from the blocked oil filter channel.
Should the relief valve not operate correctly the resultant pressure buildup would really cause serious engine damage.

You are right about the pressure drop.
But I surmise it is caused by the relief valve that has opened causing the oil flow to increase resulting in the pressure drop.

Check out this diagram as it explains what happens.

Here is a picture of the of the 3RZ oil pick up screen and the pressure relief spring valve

A few additions to make me feel cool.
I was unaware of the bypass in this engine. I have only experienced this on a GM 6.0. Most likely the culprit is bad bearings or a clogged screen however in the process of elimination a filter is a cheap and easy process to rule out prior to cracking the engine open.

Any updates on this? I'm going through the same thing, I am about to step outside to put on a oil pressure gauge, and cut open my oil filter.

I took it to a mechanic. I never been more embarrassed in my entire life. It turns out my valve cover gasket was shit and was leaking oil like crazy.

The time I checked the oil after driving I didn't wait enough to check it so It had less oil than it should've had. When I took it to the mechanic the car sat for a day before he checked it and the oil wasn't too low but it wasn't at the right level either, he poured some oil in the engine block and told me to drive to the same town, which is 45 miles away the car did the trigger the oil pressure light again. I called him to tell him and said good luck just check your oil every once in a while and replace the gasket as soon as you can.

    2006 tacoma V6 4.0 4x4 134,726 miles URD MRK2 supercharger 1,993.7 miles since added SC
1,314.7 miles since last oil change ( napa oil filter)

My truck has been throwing a low oil preassure light and will shut off while driving.

Well I cut open the napa oil filter on my truck and looks good no metal. Placed a new WIX 51515R bigger filter for SC.
    ( added tad more oil)

Purchased a new OEM pressure switch from Toyota ( $54.97)

After i warmed up truck and let it sit for awhile the oil level was spot on.

    Checked my oil pressure -
    Idle @700 RPMS = 28-32 PSI
    @3000 RPMS = 70PSI

Pulled my Oil control valves hooked up alligator clips to 12v battery and flushed mineral oil through them.

Next I pulled the oil screens on the side of the engine by the headers. They looked great nothing clogging them and then sprayed with brake cleaner.

    Now -
The truck will start and warm up fine, but once its warm the truck loses oil pressure and dies. I can't even drive my truck.
Any ideas where to look next ?

    Checked my oil pressure -
    Idle @700 RPMS = 28-32 PSI
    @3000 RPMS = 70PSI

More than sufficient oil pressure for operation. Potentially an electrical issue? Is there any tuning the second gen requires for running the super charger? I assume it (the sc) doesnt use any engine oil for operation either. What do the Air fuel ratio look like while under boost? Perhaps its running major lean and tripping whatever sensor is first in line.

Oil looks good, using a good correct filter (I assume for the 2nd gen) with the correct drainback pressure then there shouldnt be any issue there. Any possibility of a oil cooler clog? Crimped line?

I let it the truck warm up in the garage, once its warmed up ( 10 mins) I watched the gauge go from 30 PSI to 0 PSI and shuts off the truck.
I have a APR X-1 ECU with the tune on it. The SC has traction fluid that runs through the system and is full. ( check while running)
boost and AFR when i was able to drive the truck where great.
I'm thinking my oil pump is on its way out, it acts up when its warm and idle pressure at 30 PSI isn't it suppose to be 4 PSI?
