yea, one of my best friends was a Gunny that worked in the office across the hall from my office.... but at work, I'm still at parade rest talking to him, and "Rgr" etc....

but after work, we're lifting his old Jeep, drinking beers, and planning camping trips in the mountains and shit

it was a little weird... but you get used to it

If I can just piecemeal enough parts together I can stay under budget while still having a reliable lift. More money for other stuff.

Lol. Everyone I work with now is 45+ and worrying about paying for their kids/grandkids. We have nothing in common

I 100% get this.... dont get me wrong.. if it wasnt for a lot of my "nerdy" acquaintances I wouldnt have tried a lot of stuff.... and I've learned a LOT from these super techy nerds

so I'm well rounded... but at the end of the day, I'd rather look at lifts, wheels, tires, and winches online than Motherboards, Graphics cards, and routers.

Well that makes sense at that age I suppose. With my profession, dudes are worried about that shit at 30...they don't understand that living on the weekends is more than just getting wasted at a bar.

    Yea that's true.

Edit: Funny you say that...man most of my coworkers lose their nuts on PC upgrades. I don't mind the conversation as it excites them, but at the same time it just reiterates how different our main drives are in life. I have built up one pc thanks to a friends help and recommendations, but man that shit wasn't any more fun over just buying at best buy.

Yeah most of the guys I work with (all guys btw) have kids in their teens. A few are grandparents and some of them have grandkids going to college. They aren't an exclusive group. I'm sure some are balancing responsibilities with bar tabs. But just saying I'm one of maybe 3 below 30. And to add to that one of maybe a dozen below 50.

haha people are either too young or too old here... no one here seems like they are my "age" (and I mean at a similar point in their life that I am)

    this.

a lot of people I work with are the "silver spoon young professionals" that have their Masters Degrees and mom and dad got them an internship at a 3 letter agency that granted them a clearance.... so a lot of them have never even served in the military.... for instance, one of the guys... he's 29, his dad was a 2 star, but he never actually served, but is very well connected and I just sit back and have to laugh sometimes at his "analysis of military culture / lifestyle"

Yea man I got a coworker that we both joke on the other guys about. Nothing wrong with pulling the trigger on kids when you want, but many over here have kids that weren't planned. We always joke that those ones fucked up...

Hate to say it, but in ways I can relate to that dude from his background to a degree. At the same time though, you either know or you sort of don't.

Yeah I know what you're saying. He was prob still Gunny Asshole to people under him. But that wouldn't make a difference on how they addressed him.

I have to admit though, when it comes to gunnys...I keep them on a professional level unless its the weekend and in a public environment. The status those guys have to uphold not just for the command, but for the village idiots needs to be respected for the better of the group.

I think being airwing made a difference. Our gunny was a huge drone nerd and into mmorpg's. He was super cool and knew a ton about what we were doing but it was more like "we're going to consult the wizard" when we had to address him rather than being chastised.

That's the funny thing about military though, you get quite a mixed bag of folks there. Some want to experience COD in life, others want to continue the tradition, others need the benefits, or don't have many job prospects. My cousin fucked up with his last girlfriend and bragged he had a "nuts" weekend. Well sure enough she was preggo at 19. His pops rolls him into the AF a month later...benefits gave him a solid life while he was in.

I would imagine after the first deployment cycle depending the unit, some guys jump straight into marriage in the fear of living for something when they get home. But yea most guys I knew in college had kids that were priors.

Yea man airwings are pretty chill as that's the territory...keep the birds alive, eliminate FOD, training and work ups right? He sounds like a good dude though.

We were all airbags. Good shit though. I prob would've stayed in if I didn't have to go back to the fleet. I was too spoiled at that point. Had a few peers re up and hit the fleet again. All got out or retired after their first round. It's not the same anymore.

Yea man I know from the Navy side things changed big time come 2009. I was looking into the aviation community, its sad to see what they have become. Even helos arnt chill anymore with guys trying to create rumors and dirt just to be the top three when selection is near.

FYI guys I just passed about 8 cars/trucks on the side of Rt. 28 North between the toll road and 606 with flat tires.

I was in the middle lane and made it through ok. Not sure if they were coming off an exit or what.
