I would log LTFT, Timing, RPM, and Air fuel ratio.....id log a run and see if timing is being pulled at a specific RPM, hopefully at the stutter....

I have got a lot of reports from folks who have this issue with no tune or modifications at all.
I do not believe the stutter is tune related.
Many of them have said that the only thing that fixed it was getting the crank sensor replaced.
Some of which were trucks NOT on the recall list.

I have looked through every Cal update through Toyota, for the AT every update just changes shift parameters.

    Working on the MT.

Can you suggest a course of action with the dealer if our vehicle is not on the recall list? The tune makes it easy to recreate the issue, but the stock tune seems to mask it. Would you suggest flashing back to stock before scheduling a service or would we be ok to bring in the truck with our ecu loaded with your tune file? I will schedule an appointment to have my truck looked at.

For LTFT does it matter what bank? I have Engine RPM, LTFT bank 1, A/F actual, and timing advance for #1 cylinder.

Here are the steps that others (without tune, with issue) did, which I would recommend. (note if anyone does not feel comfortable doing any of this, I would recommend just take your car to the dealership).'

    1. Inspect your MAF sensor. People are reporting dirty MAFs which give skewed readings at idle or low load.
    2. Inspect your Crank angle sensor. The TSB outlines that some trucks have excessive amounts of anti-corrosion coating, which will give incorrect crank angle readings
    3. Take your car to the dealership. Enough complaints they should expand this TSB to inspect all trucks.

LFT, AFR, Knock are important things but none of those should be causing what people are experiencing.

I monitor bank 1 ltft. Timing advance should be across all cylinders but if you only show the 1 thats better then none.

Say I can, but don't want to work on my brand new truck that is under warranty? Can/Should I bring my tuned truck in or should I revert back to the stock file?

I would flash back to stock and then let the dealership know. They *should* look into it like all the other trucks. I agree you shouldn't have to touch your new truck, some folks just said this is what they did when the dealership failed to help

I've inspected/cleaned my MAF with no changes in behavior, so those of us with stuttering in that low/moderate load, low rpms scenarios may not expect a fix there. Will logging be able to track the CKP sensor output or some related value that would signal abnormal readings there?

Potentially, I'll need to dig through techstream to see if there is a valve to crank sync error rate that I can get out of RAM to log.
If there are high amounts of error, definitely an issue with the sensor.

I think this would be immensely helpful. Many dealerships are just pulling major codes from tech stream and when they see no MIL / codes say "normal." Beyond tracking overly rich fuel conditions via O2/lamda/fuel trims I've never been able to find a specific sensor reading such as you're describing. It would be awesome if you find a sync error rate that could be pointed to for those who are taking into the dealerships... Some of us were very unlucky and received little to no support from the dealer and had to quickly learn to DIY...

From the pdf I just re-uploaded because I had the wrong one...

To monitor the correlation of the intake camshaft position and crankshaft position, the ECM checks the VVT learning value while the engine is idling. The VVT learning value is calibrated based on the camshaft position and crankshaft position. The intake valve timing is set to the most retarded angle while the engine is idling. If the VVT learning value is out of the specified range in consecutive driving cycles, the ECM illuminates the MIL and sets the DTC P0016 (bank 1) or P0018 (bank 2).

To monitor the correlation of the exhaust camshaft position and crankshaft position, the ECM checks the VVT learning value while the engine is idling. The VVT learning value is calibrated based on the camshaft position and crankshaft position. The exhaust valve timing is set to the most advanced angle while the engine is idling. If the VVT learning value is out of the specified range in consecutive driving cycles, the ECM illuminates the MIL and sets the DTC P0017 (bank 1) or P0019 (bank 2).

Was thinking maybe a fault code if the CPS fails to report position.
