URD Spec-U Exhaust, 2016+ Tacoma V6 AC/LB, DC/SB

With all these quality control issues, i think i will pay an exhaust shop in vegas to make a custom exhaust that deletes the rear cats with same the same size pipes and magnaflow muffler.

Welds instead of clamps seem more reassuring with all hangars included. By any chance do you guys know the part number to the magnaflow muffler?

 

Good choice. Probably the same cost honestly. I'll end up getting mine welded one day.

 

Im assuming it will even cost less. URD prices are a bit steep, I thought because it was good quality, and believe me I was willing to pay for it. If they fix all these issues, i might still buy it.

 

Oh the clamps that connect the pipes. I looked at torque specs. 52 ft lbs typically for v band and 80 ft lbs for others typically.

 

Did Gadget say if he would be making new pipes with hangers for those of us that received front pipes without them? Considering I had to cut the V band pipe muffler side to get the hangers to align by the muffler, I am a little worried about not having the front hangers.

 

Believe the muffler is Magnaflow part #14249; 18"X5"x8", 3" in/out diameter (same one I have on my custom exhaust).

Only issues you'll probably run into when trying to do something similar, will be
1) Won't be mandrel bends
2) Exhaust shops don't typically carry 2.75" piping... May want to go 2.5" for the catback portion, in which case the muffler would be #14246. Otherwise 3" for the catback portion with the aforementioned muffler.

 

I think it's the largest 24" one.

Just double checked, Magnaflow doesn't make a polished 24" version in either 2.5" or 3" in/out diameter, only satin finish... and the muffler is clearly a polished finish. Sure it's not 18" version? Anyone want to give us a measure... @Glenn_R @dYL0n

Regarding me not having a hanger, gadget said

"Not needed. do not have the weight of the rear cats to support."

I responded with a picture showing @Glenn_R having a hanger.

It makes sense since there is less weight. But I do not think 3 hangers is enough for an exhaust system.

The hangers are there, why not use them? Cost cuts? Laziness?

 

I think the hangers should all be used. I have seen other pictures with the right side hanger present. I think when you get the replacement pipe it will have two bungs properly positioned and the hanger.

 

Gadgets answer to my email showing your exhaust hanger:

"Again, the hanger is not needed"

I asked him to add a hanger. This is BS.

 

Laziness I'd assume. Thing is...those hangars being there would likely have fixed any fitment issues you experienced. My opinion of URD is going downhill.

 

He did say he couldn't dyno the exhaust on the 3.5 Tacoma because the engine was no longer in the truck.

When asking why there was no Dyno run with the spec-u system:

"The engine is currently out of the truck for a project. Once it is reinstalled we can do a dyno on it."

Maybe he got something up his sleeve? I mean who takes the engine out of a truck?

Anyways, I requested for the hanger.

 

The engine is out of the truck because they are going to put a supercharger on it. They have no idea if it will work or not. Guess we will find out.

 

I too was looking at buying this system. Its pretty pricey but Im willing to pay if the quality is there. That said, I will now wait till this is ironed out. Im in the camp that wants all the exhaust hangers included. Why make an exhaust system that only has 3 exhaust hangers when there is clearly more available to be used for proper fitment and support. Not needed from the manufacturer is not what we wanna hear for something that costs a grand. It not much extra material or work to have the hangers added to complete this system.

 

Sorry, meant 22". I think I have read from somewhere it's 22", at least in for 2nd gen. I have one (2.5") in my FJ, it looks about the same size:

It's the 18"... has to be. Via the pictures, there's no way it's a 24". Looks to be the same same eaxact muffler I have, which is a 18". And Magnaflow doesn't make a 22"; just 14", 18" and 24".

 

Just measured, and it is 22".

 

Huh..... is it a 5x11? That comes in a 22". That's usually more or a Tundra muffler size though.... weird.
