I'm new here, and my 3rd Gen. is even newer - three days. So, if this has already been discussed, I apologize.

I'm now paranoid about parking my perfect truck anywhere. Especially after reading some of the topics here about several people's bad experiences. And I have had my own bad experiences in the past.

So, I got an idea of how to temporarily protect my doors when going to the beach or restaurant, when parking is limited - and I don't want to take the "junker." But then I thought about Googling "door ding protection" and found out there were several "temporary" solutions already available.

I'm thinking about doing some more research and investing in one. Here are just a few links I found - there are many more out there. Has anyone here thought about (or used) something like this? I have never seen anything like this being used.

Obviously they can't protect in every situation, but even if it would help protect in 75% of parking situations it would be worth it - IMO. And some of these even look fairly practical.

Your truck man, but those are tacky as hell. You don't want door dings? Park out in BFE and walk.

I see some guy looking at that thing attached to your nice new truck and then purposely scraping his keys down the side (I would hope not). Door dings can happen no matter what you do. Honestly, I park in no man's land and can count on one hand how many dings I have gotten in 30 years of driving. I'm just careful but it can happen. Save your money on one of those gadgets and use it to get a paintless dent repair if you ever get that ding. I hate them too but I'm not so sure about these things.

I don't really care what it looks like when it is parked. And since I am still going to park out in the "back 40," I even care less.

Maybe I'm lazy, but I wouldn't want to put on/remove those every time I got out of the truck. It's hard enough to take my keys out of my pocket and hit the lock button...

If you don't keep your truck in showroom condition, these options may scratch the paint and finish.
    Dents or scratches?

[IMG] Its a 4wd, park like this guy! I'm worried too- but what can you do? Walking a bit further to be away from the crowd is a good idea- i'd never try to hog two spaces to keep from being hit though, that's asking for it.

I'm with you! I'm still trying to find a way to not have to deal with the hassles of keys, much less putting some contraption on my truck. I have had maybe 2-3 dings in my life tops and they all got fixed quickly and cheaply.

It hurts less after the first one! Just kidding, I avoid dings and such but in the use of a truck mine has acquired several decent scratches already and I've learned to not stress as much.

Of course I would not want to have to use these every time I park the truck. And I am getting sliders, lifting, getting mud flaps and bigger tires. But last night I was on a date, digging the new truck and so was she. I found what I thought was a prime spot, protected on one side, and pulled all the way over.

When we came out there was a monster rental SUV right on the line next to me. If there were kids piling out of that four door, I would have been nailed. I didn't want to make a bad impression, so I just briefly took a quick look in the dark and really couldn't see anything well enough to know if there was any damage.

But I would have used some protection (no pun intended) in a situation like that.

Yep - $20-30 to give a little piece of mind couldn't hurt. I was mainly interested if anyone has ever seen or used anything like this. I didn't even know they existed. But apparently there are lots.

Should have called your date over and helped you examine the entire truck for any new dings.
    She will think you're

I'd be worried about the residue using something like the product you linked. It's a tough call sometimes, I avoid parking near others and still end up with jerks parking right next to my rig, just like you. Best of luck

As mentioned, I didn't want to give the wrong impression. So after a quick glance, it was back to the date. But I was worried the whole night, and checked it out the first thing in the morning when leaving.

Why not just get sliders? They protect from all the other mall goers and look SUPER RAD! As a bonus, the unsuspecting door dinger gets a nice little surprise when the edge of their door creases in when it slams into your rock slider.
