So mine was leaking and not on the recall list. The dealer replaced the gasket as well as the drain plug. Warranty

For those with the weeping OR rear-ends:

Just torque the nuts to 18 lb·ft, using a 3/8" drive torque wrench¹--if it takes more than 1/4 turn to properly torque them you will have found the problem, and fixed it...

    --------------------------
¹ - Most 3/8" drive wrenches (even those from HF) are acceptably accurate from 5 to 75 lb·ft. Do not use a typical 1/2" drive wrench as they are not especially accurate at 20 lb·ft, let alone anything less than that.

Day 70 now...called Kearny Mesa Toyota in San Diego to get an update. All I could
do is leave a message for my Service Advisor? Ron Watcech....he won't even bother to call me back.
It's not like I call every week, this is only the 3rd time I've called to get an update in 70 days. Nice
customer service??? F-150 is looking better and better.

2016 inferno SR5 4x2 stock- Included in recall, noticed the typical weeping and the diff being pretty hot to the touch, waited for my letter and for the 20k service on my baby. i turned it in on july 3rd and still waiting. getting increasingly furiously mad that im driving a jeep compass and not the beautiful truck i need and paid for. what steps should i take/how do i get my truck back before the paint is ruined, the battery is dead, and all the rubber is dried out and anything plastic falls to pieces? ive already missed 3+ weeks of summer plans because toyota seems to suck. (also, i sold a running fine 2000 ford ranger with 238k when i bought the truck which should show my duty/care level)

I'm glad you got your truck back, but this just stinks. You only had to wait 26 days, and they replaced the entire pumpkin? I'm on day 75 and counting! I hate Toyota corporation!

What dealership was the work performed at? Glad you got it back, my guess though is it was under the warranty side.

On a funny side note, apparently Dodge got wind of my Ram rental. When I checked the mail tonight, I had an invitation to trade my Taco in for a new Ram!

    It's a warranty or recall.
Warranties seem to be getting done faster while the recalls have to wait. I have asked everyone that has posted they have gotten theirs back.
    Short time = warranty
    45 - 75 days = recall. Very few have seen 21 - 26 days.

I admit I'd be looking at a trade too in some of these situations .... be looking at Tundra/Titan full size or the reliable 4runner w/fancy KDSS !

I would jump to a 4r in a heartbeat if I didn't need my truck and the full sized trucks are just to big. Kind of wish I bought a 15 now instead of a 17.

Ppfff.... First time I took it in, Dealer torqued nuts/bolts to 33 ft. lbs. Yep, 33 ft. lbs., says it right on the paperwork. Still weeped enough after that to warrant me to take it back in after about 6 weeks.

nuts are 12 mm, correct? does anything have to be removed to access all nuts?

thinking about going and grabbing the wrench and tightening them all up, dealers
here are months out from fixing anything.

such differances in dealers,, took mine for 10,000 service,, said i wanted the rearend fluid checked because it was weeping,, was told not on the recall list, and they ordered parts to repair it, no questions asked, and will be given a loaner when the work has to be done,,

Maybe that is it. Low fluid differentials get new pumpkins which is not many. So they probably have a few pumpkins in stock. Hmm..........

For guys having issues with dealers acknowledging leaks on non recall trucks. Notify the NHTSA and show them the recall notice on what is considered a leak and show them your pick. Notify Toyota corp you are doing so that will get their attention

33 lb·ft is wrong for the original nuts, that is highlighted distinctly in the recall procedure, could be they damaged the nuts--it is also one of those "if I didn't do it myself I am immediately sceptical" things...
