2009 DC will NOT START.

Hello all,
So a little background information on my truck, I left for spring break from college and left the truck in a parking garage for one week. Came back and started it and drove off to go eat at a restaurant. I come back and try to start it, and *click, truck doesn't start, it doesn't even turn over. tried multiple times for about an hour and it still didn't start however everything electrical in the interior was working fine, dash lights, lights, ect. Had no other choice to get it towed to the nearest dealership. After it got towed, i decided to try again..and it started right UP..FRUSTRATING. then I drove it for a few minutes, came back to the dealership lot, turned it off and tried it again. click* no start AGAIN. So i left my truck there for two nights (it was a saturday) Anyways, the following monday i get a call from them saying that they started it fine with no problems. I asked them to try over and over to replicate the problem. I picked up the truck after a few hours and it was working fine. The dealership told me that they encountered no issues with the starter, battery, and that if there was any problem it would be the *aftermarket? engine immobilizer installed. How can it be aftermarket if i bought this truck brand new with 300 miles on the odo? However, one thing that is weird is that i have to depress the left turn signal to start the truck (which makes me wonder if it is aftermarket..do any toyota security systems have this feature?) I also noticed that my truck came with a LO-JACK system installed..could this feature be the lo-jack system?
Anyways they told me that if I encountered another problem that they could do nothing about it because it is aftermarket and that I would have to go to the dealership from where i originally bought this truck from (which is 1800 MILES AWAY) to fix it.
Although they claimed that they did nothing to the truck, i think they restarted something as the clock on the radio was wrong and I had to reset it.

It's been about a week now and the truck is running fine no issues, however the thought that my truck may leave me stranded is nerve-racking. Any inputs on what the problem may be?
I also have 7000 miles currently on the truck, so it's fairly NEW.

 

They may have disconnected the battery to test for an electrical draw or maybe just to see if that would reset something. If they say it's got an aftermarket system you should probably call the place you bought and try to figure out what the hell is going on. I don't know of any factory anti-theft device that would make you have to switch on a turn signal to start the truck. It certainly sounds aftermarket.

If you have any other problems and aren't getting anywhere with dealerships, I would check under the dash to see if you can find anything suspicious. If you see a black box zip tied to something than it's an aftermarket system. Some of those you can just unplug and it will disable the system without any adverse effects.

Just cause you bought it new doesn't mean that's it's NOT aftermarket. Dealers will use aftermarket parts and install them at an insane markup.

Did you get an sort of paperwork from the dealer you bought the truck from about the engine immobilizer or loJack system?? Cause that is going to explain what kind of warranty you have and what you'll need to do to get that worked out.

I would have a hard time believing a NEW truck would have any issues that would make it intermittently not start...except when you put in the aftermarket electronics in the mix....

 

Do a search on here, there was another guy that was having a similar issue a few months ago.

 

I have worked at car dealerships for the past several years and there is ALOT of aftermarket stuff that gets added. You might could talk to the finance manager that did your paper work... he would be the most familiar with the lo jack system.

 

The only document i have access to right now is the Lojack system, which states that a LoJack Recovery system is installed in the truck. Only the recovery system though, and not the vehicle security system. The vehicle security system is the one with the starter disabler and according to the form and it's not installed in the truck...so i'm not sure what this left turn signal business is, but i don't think its LoJack. I'm expecting to give them a call tomorrow.

 

When you call just be sure to start out nice. Like I said this is what I do for a living and I personally will be alot more willing to help a person that is being reasonable. Then get nasty if ya need too. I would go online to the dealerships website and try to find the general managers name and ask for him by name when you call.
