Wow I spent about an hour last night reading about body mount bushing replacements. /eyes crossed/ what do you think is creating tacoma lean? And, any thoughts about reinforcing structure under the battery?

I've been following the last few pages and wanted to jump in. That's why I don't like the dual batteries in the stock location. It's too much weight on the inner fender without adding some structural support.

@CVYota has a story to tell about that.
The key to adding dual batteries in the stock location is to add (several) more attachment points to the sheetmetal. There really isn't a single solid part of the truck there that would hold the weight of two batteries, but having multiple mounting points even to thin sheet metal makes for a strong mount. In my humble opinion it's not worth the trouble of a simplified dual battery wiring setup given that there are plenty of options for where to mount the second battery: inside the cab behind the rear seats, bed (if you have a topper), even on the passenger side firewall (where people usually mount their compressors). You're already making a big modification to the truck, a longer run of battery cables shouldn't intimidate you into taking shortcuts.

I believe that taco lean is caused by the truck frame and body being built symmetrically. The heavier components such as gas tank, drivers controls and battery, as well as the driver being on one side of the truck cause the lean. The location of the battery in particular seems to exacerbate the failure of the radiator mount/bushing/ wheel-well and battery-tray sheet metal. This can cause sagging in that area making the lean more pronounced and permanent. The new poly bushing seems to correct some of this. Adding the bushing and adjusting the suspension seems to be to answer to achieve a level side-to-side truck.

Reminds me I need to fiddle with my coilovers at some point.... I've got a solid inch lean still, post-bushing install...

Hmm. Too late for me but I'll weigh relocating vs reinforcing.

Yeah, didn't know all this when I started!

Yeah, looking at the bushings' design and wear from @croms post an inch of lean is coming from something else. It looks like if the mounts totally failed they would still be about half their height and that would bee what... 1/4-3/8" lost height.

Suspension makes most sense to me. It would be interesting to get a truck on a scale with a full gas tank and see what the weight distribution is. Most vehicle designers work quite hard to make sure it's dead even!

As far as yesterday he is safe and sound and enjoying places which would make us all want to be there too. I'm sure he'll be back asap with recon photos.
