    Uh. I need a tip / hint / help?
Is there, like, a trick or thing to releasing the front rotors that are rotten on?

It's bad. I need to do complete pad / rotor / caliper swap.
Fluid poured out of driver side caliper and voila! no brakes at all. Nice touch while driving.
I gingerly drove truck back 50 miles to work on it in my garage (cousin's truck).

I have pried against the caliper mounts with a pry bar. I have pounded the hell out of what's left of the rotor from the back side (std. hammer. Sledgehammer tbd is I can get mine from my house or find one).
    It won't budge or release.

Is there a puller for this? There don't seem to be any screw in points to shove it out.

I have PB Blaster on hand. Spray into the lug nut mounts??

Ok! You got some coming up!
    (Proof of salt wear, eh?)
Was thinking... maybe a torch or something? Torch it, and then maybe hit it with cold water? Is there anything in the wheel hub / rotor mount area that would be bad to do that to by contact of heat / cold?

Definitely soak it in penetrating oil. I use 50/50 atf and acetone which penetrates further than off the shelf oils of that nature.

Also while you're at it, check out the Tundra big brake upgrade if your wheels are 16"+ and you haven't bought any components yet.

That's some mighty fine looking rust. Oh look. Is that a fine looking rotor?
(Maybe I can turn the rotor and reuse it right. o_O)

Pads - think I can salvage them? Haha. One side: gone. Rotor metal: gone. Caliper piston seals: blown out. Good braking stuff.

I used one of these on my in laws cherokee. Was the only way to get the rear rotors off after the bfh didnt get anywhere. When they broke free, sounded like a shotgun went off in my ear. Put a lugnut on the threads, cause when it breaks free it will have some momentum

Also, when i used this i stacked the old pads against the screw in the middle so it pushed against them instead of the hub.

No. Actually what you really fear is the gas tank. About the worst I've ever seen. Although... it's not leaking - yet.
The frame? Itsa good! Got that frame recall done 2014 by prior owner!
Frame is nice. Rear subframe for bumper... eh... seen much better days. Also new fuel lines and brake lines were politely installed during the recalled frame work. Very nice.
The brakes, hubs, diff, gas tank are appalling.
Exhaust had been fully re-done. I put in new rear shocks in January and that's why (rust) had to install a better shape (black) bed also in January. Have a gas tank on hand, hadn't had the time to install it (yet).

    Yes. [IMG]

This puller centers on the CV shaft end, so you need to chisel off the dust cap on the hub.

Hey TacoCat. That's some decent suggestions. A big puller and use something sacrificial against the hub. That black hub... sounds kind of like hollow metal tapping on it?

take a big hammer to those rotors the bigger the better. If that doesn't work heat it a little then use the big hammer

Ah ok. Thanks! So pop off that dust cap - why it sounds hollow (and looks flimsy).
Ok ok. These are all excellent ideas. Thanks all!
I will post results as I get this rotor off.

(and that dust cap was rusted in there pretty good. I couldn't even verify there was a separation of two parts there - it was so rusted altogether.)

Well, my cousin is a guy who needs some help in life.
He scored this 2003 Tacoma with something like 80K only miles for FREE from his aunt and uncle.
I had to do some work to get it road worthy for him.
The truck was used pretty much ON the Vermont farm - just about only. And short rides into town. I think it was always parked on lawn / dirt. Meaning I think water vapor every morning rose up from the earth and did it's terror on the metals and also throw in a sh*tload of salt during winter, and probably must be a guy who never heard of the term 'car wash'... and you get what is currently on view.
So in short, don't move outside Montpelier, Vermont (unless you have a garage and keep it in there all winter)! :annoyed:

if you have access to a torch. heat it up a little. even one of those little portable probane torches should get it hot enough to pop off

A sh*thead roommate stole my torch.
I have another one - but I think it's about 3 hrs from here at other spot :(
Argh. Gonna look and see if torch is here, but not sure it is. May have to buy another. I guess some of those parts stores will loan puller tools too.

There should be two bolt holes on the rotor. Get a bolt and screw it through the holes...the rotor should break free
