    Fucking DirecTV...

Called yesterday to make an appointment for them to come out and check my dish alignment (it's mounted to a tree because that's the only spot where it would work, long story), made the appointment for this afternoon between 12 and 4. Wife would be home.

Get a call a bit ago saying they will be there between 10 and 10:30, because they had me down for 8-12. WTF.

Wife called and rescheduled for tomorrow morning.

Yes, I have Husky's classic liner, and they have been great. I would recommend to anyone Husky's over Weathertech floor liners.

    :frusty: with the boat.
One of the needle valves on the carbs that I just rebuilt and cleaned is dribbling instead of jetting so I can't get over 4k RPM's even at WOT. It's been working perfectly since I reinstalled them, and I've put probably 8-9 tanks of gas through it since then. Then last night I took it out on the lake after work and she wouldn't get up to speed; maxed out at 18mph according to the GPS.
I don't know if I missed some varnish in the bowl that finally loosened up and clogged the valve or what. Or maybe I had something in one of the lines between the filter and the carbs that got flushed out, who knows. And of course it's the lower carb, so I have to take apart the whole front part of the motor to get at it.

Afternoon, you mean. They put you down for Friday though.

Outboards are such a PITA to work on, aren't they? The carbs don't usually have float bowl drains so it's hard to confirm float height and there are usually no intake manifold synch ports so you can't put a carb synchornizer on it. Gotta do it by ear and trial and error.

I'm in a nightmare situation with my big boat right now, I burned out one of my j-hooks. These are basically idle speed bypass exhaust hoses made out of rubber that are at the very lower of the transom plate. I burned the right one out, and it in turn melted one of my trim lines. Long story short- the motor needs to come out to replace the j-hooks because they are sandwiched between the motor bell housing and the transom plate for the outdrive.

I'm thinking of paying someone to do it because I don't have the time and it's gonna be expensive. Probably a couple grand.

    Ouch...

Fortunately mine won't be that pricey, it's just a pain in the butt to get those carbs off. And lots of guess work involved with tuning them.

Did some sound deadening this morning. Only did the front and suicide doors, still have 2 sheets left over. Eventually I'll get around to ordering more of the butyl mat and do the mass loaded vinyl inside of the door panels and on the floor. Did 3 layers inside all the doors. When you hit them now there's no metallic ding, just a solid thud.

I know the mlv is what really keeps out outside noise, but there is literally nothing in there. Loaded up with 3 layers of butyl mat has got to do something. The doors are like empty tin cans.

Also, i'm fucking retarded. Driving home Sunday from some errands with the wife and giblets the brakes start pulsating, thing making horrible grinding noises along with the pulsating and having trouble stopping...great. Fortunately I was only in the next town over and limped it back home using the parking brake to stop. Yesterday I pulled the front pass wheel off to take a look (where the sound was coming from). Pulled the pads out, everything looks good..wtf. I had just replaced the caliper about 3 months ago as one of the pistons had seized. Didn't have much time to investigate further until this morning.

Figure i'd pull the caliper off and see if there's like a rock up in there or something. Go to remove the lower caliper-spindle bolt and son a bitch, there's no bolt there. Fuck me... Surely I had torqued it correctly since I paint mark every bolt/ surrounding surface with a paint pen. But, there's no paint mark on the hub by the lower bolt hole. Must have got distracted and not torqued the lower bolt. Upper bolt was marked and had not moved fortunately. Need to wait till tomorrow for the stealer go get the bolt in so I can drive the FJ again.

PSA, make sure to torque your shit and double check you actually did it...:bananadead:

    :goingcrazy:

It's ok, I was replacing brakes in a pouring rain storm once and was in a hurry and I put one of the pads on backwards without noticing. Got it all put back together, showered and dried off and changed, then went out and got in to go to the store....grind grind grind.

at first I thought one of the pads had detached from the backing plate cause of the sound it was making. At least you had brakes that kind of worked...

lol, yeah, kinda. It had chewed the rotor up pretty good by the time I got turned around and got back home, though. But I was in high school and driving a beater, so I just flipped the pad around and slapped it back together. Then I did a couple of hard stops to seat the pad and called it good.

    I've done this.
Either forgot or didn't tighten the lower bolt on an F150.
After a few miles the caliber would ride up and grind on the wheel. Awful sound...
