K cool. Sounds like it'll be fun then. Wish I could go. If you have time before or after the Morrison trip you should head to Cooke city, Daisy pass, Goose lake area. Maybe hike to grasshopper glacier nice views up there. Just a suggestion. Have a good trip.

The whole area is pretty amazing and sparsely populated. If you get a chance I'd check out the Yaak and Eureka area. Side note, there is a pretty decent brewery in Libby as well as up Graves creek about 10 miles (or so) south of Eureka if you're into craft beer.

Noted. I really want to get my wife and I some quads and go camping out there. Do you happen to know if the water levels are too high this time of year to go wheeling and riding?

Not sure what you're talking about...do you mean wheeling around the lake below high watermark? Not sure about that. There is a ton of public land and forest service roads all over that area, as well as several campgrounds.

From wheeling I mean like the little "sand dunes" if those are underwater this time of year

Thanks I went through Cooke City, probably am again on my way over. How long/strenuous is the Grasshopper Glacier? I saw it, but wasnt sure how far the drive in is and how long the hike is. I'm guessing you drive in on the roads by Lulu Pass, but I couldn't find any hiking trails unless you just make your own.

Don't know anything about them. I haven't actually been on the lake since I was a kid, but have camped up there twice in last few years and am headed back in two weeks with the wife and kids. Tends to be a popular place for rock climbers, cyclists, and motorcycle riders as well.

Just googled it, sounds like late March through early June is when water levels are good. Looks like a blast!

https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...ggcMAA&usg=AFQjCNGB2QLCnVLu7itvBAudtXK05bB1yg maybe this will help if you don't already have. The drive isn't bad, cool lakes, rocky though. I was able to do it in my lifted 4runner but with stock size tires. Did hit a few rocks but not bad last stretch at goose lake the hardest part. Then when you get to goose lake (the last lake) you hike north along the east side of the lake tell the end then the trail cuts off east up the mountain. I would say the hike is 5-6 miles round trip. The last mile is a hard pull to the top. Hope this helps. I would at least go to goose. Worth it to me.

Thanks. I did find the goose lake part and then that there's a trail past. Some places say 4+ miles. I'll probably camp in that area tonight and we'll see how much of a go getter I'm feeling like tomorrow. I saw that the grasshoppers might have already melted away though. :(

Well I think I finally got unpacked enough to do a little exploring this weekend. Has anyone made the trip up past independence to monument peak? Trying to decide if it's feasible to do solo in a relatively stock truck (bumped the tire size up a small amount and added rock sliders). It's my last weekend for a while to do any exploring so I'd like to try to get out somewhere, even for just an overnighter.

I'm pretty sure stock will scrape on he way up to monument peak. Also make sure your tires are in good shape. Pretty sharp rocks. I ended up turning around after a 1/2 mile. Went alone late in the day last spring. I'm not stock btw

Thanks for the heads up. You probably saved me some frustration! I tried it last year on a road trip, but I already had a flat from earlier on the trip so I turned around where it first got rough. Do you have any recommendations on areas within a couple hours of bozeman to check out?

Bridger canyon rd has some trails. I went up Olsen Creek once and had some cool views. Shouldn't be a problem with stock taco. I've only been out here a year so I'm still hunting for trails.
