09 speedo showing incorrect?

Hello,

Just threw in my Garmin tonight to see how it'd look on the windshield and I noticed that my 09 is showing about 3 mph higher at 60-65 mph.

Garmin 62 MPH vs. Toyota 65 MPH

Anyone else noticing this? My Tundra read true to both, so I'm guessing my Taco is off. Thanks!

I just bought an 09 and have also noticed that the speedometer seems to register a higher speed than your actually going. What can you do?

 

I have an 08 Sienna... it too reads high, about the same as yours.

My 08 is actually 56 at a indicated 60 MPH.

 

every car you will ever buy will register off by a lil bit. 3-5 percent is normal. Find an offroad shop and talk to them about a speed healer/calibrater.
Speeds are even more different after bigger tires or changed gearings- They might be able to help you out.

 

same thing- mine is reading about 3 to 5 higher than it is.
5 mph higher is unacceptable to me though. that a whole speedo increment!

 

My 07 was showing 2mph high.
However - when I hooked up the scangauge, the data showing on the scangauge is accurate to my GPS. For some reason, the needle on the speedometer isn't calibrated properly. I took a quick measurement of one mile distance, and it was only off by .02 of a mile.

I wouldn't be concerned about the speed - it's the *distance* that you should be worried about.

Check your distance to an actual mile on the GPS.

 

Pioneer is a GPS I would assume?

All this makes me wonder how any GPS compares to an actual mile marker on the highway.

 

My '08 is off 4MPH or so. I've never had a new auto off that much. Just get used to it I guess. I understand the dealer will just tell you it's "within specs". I'll bet if it were a Lexus they'd be falling over themselves to make it right.

I thought that when you add larger tires, the speedo would read faster? Am I doing the math wrong? Thanks!

well I'd argue that my bumper to bumper is good till 37800 and drive train good to 63000 if its off 5mph then!!

I just noticed this weekend that my GPS says 70 when my speedometer says 72.

 

Toyota states an acceptable indication error could be as much as 3-6 miles per hour here is a link from an 05-06 service manual.

 

No, you're not alone. My BONE STOCK Taco reads 3 mph faster at all speeds by two different GPS units (reading the same speed to the tenth at the same time). Strangely, it's all in the needle though as the odometer is dead on, out to 70 or 100 miles. Very disappointing.
