    I don't carry when I'm fishing...mainly because I don't want to drown everything when I fall.

The same shit everyone else has.
I keep reading longer and lighter is better for high sticking. Gives me an excuse to buy more gear even though Im sure my 9'5w would be just fine.

I carry my M&P 9c, mostly because It makes my old lady feel better when Im in the woods alone.

I love fishing stimis, EHCs, and Royal Wulffs. If Im fishing subsurface, is generally wooly buggers and green weenies.

    Couple ties from tonight -

My Royal Wulff variation. Size 12. I call it the Neon Wulff. Comparadun style deer hair wing, ginger hackle, and neon pink body. I've yet to meet a brookie that doesn't like these. Slather it up with gink so it rides super high on the water and watch the fish go nuts.

Pat's runner legs... Size 10 4x long. I tie mine with with 2 sets of legs instead of 3 because I hate working with the runner legs and cannot get the 3rd set to lay right. Tying them this way makes them a lot faster to tie too, which is cool cause I'm lazy.

Yea, it would be helpful. Let's you keep your distance from the fish and move the nymph rig without the need to cast

I mend line through the pocket and then roll cast back to the top but that's only with a double fly setup. I do see a longer rod being more advantageous for high sticking a single nymph though.

The guy I fished with this winter had a really neat setup using a 10' echo rod and enough mono/flouro coming off his fly line that he didn't have to cast at all. He had a colored piece of mono for an indicator and a two nymph setup joined at the blood knot. Basically used it like a cane pole and was catching one fish after another while I got skunked tossing streamers all day

    That's precisely euro style nymphing.

I want to give it a go. I'm not very confident in my nymphing skills and usually use streamers or dries but seems like a great technique to learn for colder weather

Apparently you can't find everything on Amazon.

Trying to find a 30" rod sock for a 4 piece rod. I'm not having any luck.

With that said, I don't understand Cabela's thought process.

Picked up a nice 6 wt, 9'. Deal includes a rigid rod tube. I'm thinking nice!

Unfortunately, non of the rigid rod tubes come with rod sleeves. So all these rods being sold are just banging against themselves in the tube. You would think a fly rod with a guarantee would would have a decent way to store them safely. I dunno.

The rod socks that Cabela's had were just shitty, or I would have bought one.

Sorry about the rant. This is a very nice casting rod and I kind of wanted to take care of it.

$100 for a decent rod with a life time replacement warranty? I'm all over that!

    Carry on.

    Kirk out.

I'm still mostly on the indicator
That said the best fishermen I know fish w/o a bobber more often than with. Maybe cuz the challenge, maybe cuz it's more streamlined/simple, but most likely because they know they can get a deeper more natural (albeit shorter and closer range) drift
Also usually quicker/more responsive strike detection without one and u already have a tight line so more consistent hookup especially on the big fish that spit quick lol

You can make one pretty easily. Find someone with a sewing machine and half assed skills and they could hook you up.

Just watched this with my daughter and got to thinking this gymnast could be a hell of a fly caster. Waste of talent if you ask me :)

Looks to be decent trout and hucho fishery in her home waters (the carpathians)

I thought that was the lamest addition to the Olympic games when it first came out, but I gotta admit, I watched that whole thing. Pretty impressive.
