One is old, and the other works most of the time. I'm just going to give them away. Rather do that than toss them I the trash.

Although, in my neighborhood, someone will probably take them from the trash.

Think I missed a discussion, are there some speakers up for grabs? I have a pre-wired for surround sound basement but have not purchased a system yet.

I have a couple sets of bookshelf speakers, but not a set of 5.1 speakers.

Picked up my new (well, new to me. Hasn't been new since 50 years before I was born, lol) beer fridge last night!
Had my 3rd crappy used Chinese-made el cheapo in 7 years crap out on us a couple of weeks ago, so I figured I'd go old school instead. As near as I can figure from the serial and model numbers it's a 1938 and it still runs just as cold and as quiet as when it was new. The freezer's tiny, but the lower shelf on it is the perfect size for a 750ml bottle of tequila

I haven't had any issues with mine :notsure:. tranny take some time to get used to, but that's it. It acts just as any modern slushbox will trying to get the best MPG.
    What's the new recall for?

One of the houses I lived in during college was built in the 20s and the stove I believe from was the 30s or 40s. Still worked awesome. The oven was freaking tiny, but still did its' job. Much like this one:

My first apartment had one of these in it:

It was freaking awesome. I wish I still had it, because I do WAY more cooking and baking now than I ever did back then, and typically for a large meal I'm baking things that cook at different temperatures (like dinner rolls and a chicken, etc)

We'll see. It's got about 4 inches of insulation so it shouldn't need to cycle very often; once it got down to temperature last night it shut off and didn't turn on again for about 45 minutes, and that's with the old gasket that doesn't seal completely tight. If it only cycles on for a few minutes an hour it'll probably use about the same amount of power as the modern fridge we have upstairs. My upright deep freeze is from the early 60's and is set up the same way; it has a ton of insulation and a large compressor that only turns on for a few minutes every couple of hours. That unit actually uses less power (and is larger) than the 10 year old chest freezer I've got parked next to it. :notsure:

Edit- Besides, when we're not running heat lamps for chicks and grow lamps for seedlings my power bill is down around $50-60 per month. I figure I can probably handle a little bit of an increase

Thanks! I told the GF that we're fancy now, since that fridge sold new for $160 in the 30's, which works out to about $2700 today.

    If only you were closer...

I gave away all my extra receivers when I moved figuring I have no use for them anymore, and I am apparently being given a set of Dahlquist speakers. I have an Onkyo TX-8555 with enough power (maybe) to drive them, and it's too nice to be in the garage anyway. But then I don't have anything for my garage speakers.

I have a Yamaha 5.1 receiver in the house to drive all the Polk stuff in my living room, and it's a fantastic unit given how inexpensive it was, but I don't think it'd do so well with 4 ohm power hungry speakers.

Mine's $100 and I live alone, swapped every bulb or fixture in the house with LEDs, and don't leave things on unnecessarily.

But, I do have electric hot water, an electric range, and an electric dryer, so that all contributes to it. And on the hot nights I use A/C for my bedroom so I guess $100 isn't terrible.

I really wish the range was propane. I have a 100 lb propane tank out back for a gas insert on one of the fireplaces, so if I ever have to replace the range I'll be running a line into the kitchen for a propane one. Cooking over fire is so much better. Only thing I'll give the electric is it's easy to clean because it's a flat glass top.

I have a Yamaha now. From my research, Yamaha is the way to go for inexpensive receivers. The only thing I miss about the Onkyo that the Yamaha can't do is analog video over HDMI.
