Yotarobs 4runner build

UPS just dropped off my head gasket set & head bolts from ENGNBLDR. I am very happy with this set, it includeds a lot of gaskets that I didn't expect it too. If anyone ever finds themselves rebuilding a motor, I highlly recomend ENGNBLDR for all of your parts. When you are talking to Ted, you know that you are not just talking to an employee who doesn't give a fuck, but someone whos livley hood depends on building a good reputation with the toyota comunity. Not to mention his prices are far better than what I bought from LC Engineering.

 

I am saying that ENGNBLDR is a great place to buy parts & while I did get dry fucked by LCE, at least I got a kick ass decal for the 4runner.

 

Well now that I have all the stuff I have been waiting for, I doubt I will have much time to do anything with the 4runner this weekend, I have a bunch of other bull shit to do this weekend.

 

It has been a few days since I really got anything done, I did manage to get the engine compartment cleaned over the weekend.

Last night I set out to lap the valves. It was somethnig new for me, but once I got going it went very well. I did all of the intake valves first, the sealing surfaces looked to be in pretty good shape and I spent maybe 10 minutes per valve polishing them with the fine grit compound. Then the exhaust valves where a whole nother story! The sealing surfaces where COVERED in carbon build-up. I only got 2 of the exhaust valves done because I had to work them for well over an hour each, but they still came out great, just took a bunch of time to restore the finish on them. I did not take any pics because I left my camera at work but I will get some tonight when I finish the last 2 valves. I feel good about what I am doing here, pretty damn sure that I was loosing some compression around the exhaust valves.

 

I got a pretty late start last night but did finish lapping the valves. I realy,really tried to get some before & after pics of the valves but I could not get a picture close enough to show the detail without ending up blury. I guess you guys are going to have to take my word for it that all of the valves look great & I am 100% confident that I did some good getting them to seal. I hope to get an earlier start today after work, maybe with one more day of prepping/ cleaning & 1 more trip to the auto part store for odds & ends, I will have this thing all ready to be put back together.......I hope.

 

I have been taking my time, the motor has been out for over 2 weeks now & I haven't even started reassembly. If I go any slower, this thing is never going to make it to Alto

 

Progress is coming very slowly, I got the block all prepped & painted last night, chased all of the head bolt holes with a tap, got all of the gasket surfaces cleaned.

 

The paint looks good, still not sold on the color, but once it is all put together it will look better.

Glad you can make it on Sunday, I really don't have much left to do before I put it all back together. Hopefully when you show up I will have an assembled engine on the stand & we can put it back in.

 

We could even do them on Friday if you have your taco & time.

Yeah, yeah.....I told Brandy last night that you where coming to help on sunday so we are all good to go. Made a little progress last night before callin it an earlly night & getting some much needed sleep. I don't think I will have any problems getting the engine back together before Sunday. I have a pretty long list of parts that I am going to try & source today.

 

OK then, I might have you bring the spacers to my shop instead of my house if that's cool with you. I have much better measuring tools at work & I need to stay a little late & work on a project......I have some asshole breathing down my neck about him making a bracket.

Just got off the phone with Napa, looks like they are going to have to order a few of my parts, but they should all be in first thing Saturday morning.

 

I have made a long term decision about the 4runner. I am positive that when I get this motor back in that it is going to run great & last a couple years while I work on other aspects of the truck. Down the road, a 3.4 V-6 is going to find it's way betwen the fenders......

Well.....the motor back in the truck, Still a long way from running...... I have the bell housing & motor mounts locked down but that is about it. AlienXtx came & helped all day, thank goodness because this damn thing fought us the whole way. I'll post a better update with some pictures after I get a shower & a little rest.

 

Thanks, I will probably be working on it in the evenings through the week so just let me know when you have time. I plan on tackling the torque converter bolts tomorrow.

 

All the older toys a small width axles. No matter what they are. The IFS axles were wider. I've heard of guys using spacers even though I'm not a fan of them. I'm sure it would work though.
