2016/2017 Tacoma stalling risk recall

Be glad Toyota is at least doing something and submitting to a voluntary recall. I had a '03 Sentra with a bad cps and it was a common issue with that era sentras. It would be very difficult to start and stutter at start up. After awhile it would smooth out. Towards the end it would almost stall out completely on the road. Nissan came out with an updated sensor but never issued a recall and I had to pay to replace it out of my own pocket. It sucks that modern vehicles can get so screwed by just a small sensor but that's the electronic world we live in.

 

Other than fixing the major issues (stuttering/stalling), do you notice any other differences in the way it drives and responds to throttle input in general? I'd also be interested in your before and after MPG after you've had a chance to put a few miles on it.

 

Based on the dates in the recall draft letter I am still confused. My V6 truck was assembled in December 2015 which is after the shown dates of September through November 30, 2015. That does not tell me when my engine was assembled. Chances are my engine was assembled weeks, if not months, prior to my truck assembly. So I guess we just wait for the letter.

Hello All,

My 2016 SR5 left me stranded on the side of the road due to the sensor recall. When I got to the dealership they told me I had the issue but my VIN was not included in the recall.

Heads up to everyone...might want to get theirs checked out.

 

My Texas made truck hasn't been a part of any of these recalls either. Just sayin...

Mine is a Texas made truck and has the differential recall. Just waiting to see if the cps is recalled. Differential is not leaking but has 4 very light damp spots at 13,500 miles.

 

Did your '17 have the "old type" sensor? My '17 SR5 (8/16 build date, Texas) has the new style sensor. My truck is not on the recall list. I do experience what feels like "slight missing" in multiple rpm ranges and noticeable stubbles under acceleration on occasion. I am considering changing out the sensor anyway to rule out the sensor. My thinking is that if it is an anti corrosion fouling of the sensor it wouldn't matter which style sensor is in there.

 

Honestly I couldn't tell since there wasn't really a visible difference, but it did have some white flaky stuff on it in places. Mine was 8/16 date as well - but Baja made

I'll probably end up replacing mine along with cleaning the MAF.

 

I just got the recall notice today.

 

Fingers crossed that either I don't get it or I do get it before mine goes in for the differential recall (not leaking but couple of very minor damp spots-hopefully just torque the bolts).

 

Got my notice. Scheduled an appointment for next week.

Got my CPS done on Tuesday, drove it to work today and saw this (I didn't baby it either, I was going between 60 - 80 the whole trip when I could. There was a little stop and go in there but I try to drive before the traffic gets heavy.)



I do the same trip once a week in traffic and usually see 18 or 19, never break 20. It was also more fun to drive and didn't seem to be as much a pain in the ass on the highway. Before any change of speed got me a gear change, today it was more like a normal truck. Give it a little more gas and it would just slowly increase the speed, give it a lot of gas and it will downshift. I'm not saying I'm not still watching the Mod thread closely debating that choice, but for my trip in this am it was actually fun drive.

Do you know if they did ANYTHING else to your truck? Did they do any software updates by chance?

 

I try not drive too aggressive and I average 24-25mpg. Good for you. It might go higher

 

Received my notice in the mail yesterday. Scheduled my appointment for next tuesday, and was informed they have the required parts on hand and that my truck will be ready same day. Fingers crossed
